Outside the house, do the hedges have to be placed back-to-back, or can you place a hedge next to a non-hedge-edge?

Oh, I see: "Orient the new tile however you wish, so long as it does not block the way you came into the tile".
I guess this means that, inside the house, sometimes when you place a tile you end up blocking a doorway?

I place tiles to minimise the chances of this happening...i.e. turn the available doors to where I have most space on the table.

You have to leave the door/path open that you're using to enter the tile. Doors/paths leading out of the current tile don't have to match previously placed other tiles, though you tend to want them too, as that gives you more flexibility.
