It's in the rules.

You may move your ship, at the cost of one movement point, from the orbit of the innermost planet to the orbit of the outermost planet.

You may first move to the innermost planet's orbit and then do the sun tunneling, afterwards move the rest...

You have this very well explained at the end of the rule book.

The question that often comes up, though, is when you play the card. Can you play it at the start of your movement and see if your opponent cancels, or do you have to play it at the exact point in your movement before the tunneling?

Pretty much what it says. You move for one movement point from the orbit of the inmost planet to the orbit of the outmost planet. This can be played before or after the die roll.

The rule booklet has further details on other subjects, too.

It's still quite clear, at least in the German rules, not sure about the English translation. But what the German card explanation says is this (literally):

"The player is also allowed to first check his speed for this turn before playing this card[...]."

So this means that you can, as Janu referred, play the card at the beginning of your turn or during your movement phase (since you need 1 movement point to use the card).

Hi JohnRayJr,

you may play interventions at *any time* during *your* turn - this is intentionally arbitrary (is this the word?) - well - really anytime.

A very contrieved counter-example:
You cannot play an intervention and immediately play another intervention before your opponent gets a chance to neutralize the first one. But - as I said - this is a very contrieved case.

But you may for example ...
...throw the die
...move one or two points
...play an intervention to switch your ship with your opponent's ship
...move the remaining points from the new position
(this could be helpful to put your opponent's ship in in unfavorable position for his next turn).

You might even play the sun tunneling to move to the other side of the sun - and then play the second intervention to switch positions :LOL: ...

...or....

hu - you get the idea. The point in time is quite free for playing an intervention because this way it is always possible to find new ingenious "devilish plans"

But keep in mind - the best plan may fail if an intervention is neutralized...
