Can a player enclose an area even if there is another camel in it (his or another player) even if it will not give him scoring point (but it could be an interesting way to block a player)? So just to be sure if you can enclose an area even if you won't score for it.
Cheers.

Yes you can enclose an area with yours or another player's camels in it. But like you said, you won't get any points for the enclosed spaces. Blocking them off will prevent them from using much of that color.

Yes, you can expand your caravans however you like to any adjacent spaces (except spaces that touch another caravan of the same camel color). Whether that encloses/blocks/annoys another caravan has nothing to do with the legality of a move.

One last question then: If you enclose an area with another player camel in it, you don't get point for this area, but do you still take the water marker and the oasis token (if no camel touch it)?
Thanks guys.

Yes, that's how we play it.

Of course not. The rules about "Enclosing Areas" and taking posession of the water holes are very explicitly clear that "An enclosed area may not contain any other camels".
If there are other camels in it, then it's not an "Enclosed Area". (And camels may continue to be placed in it to reach and claim the water holes.)

So much for playing it right.

BTW:
Note that otherwise any caravan touching an edge "encloses" the entire rest of the map, topologically speaking (along with all the other camels).
E.g.:
.X...... XX...... ........ ........ ........
The 3 X's "enclose" the small northwest area and the big southeast area.
Otherwise you have some subjective judgement about "well, it has to be a small area enclosed, of course not the majority of the map", but then what about:
........ ........ XXXXXXXX ........ ........
Is the north or the south enclosed?

your exemple is so right and explain a lot, if not all.
Thanks
