This question came up in our game last night and was hotly debated. Can brown place his two free road sections as indicated in the picture? According to the rules, this should be allowed because one point is at an conquered region. But it didn't seem quite right that you could build the first road section into an unconquered region, and add another section from a point still in the region even if the second point was at an intersection with an conquered region.

I believe you can. The rule is that one of the two end-points of the road must border a conquered region. It doesn't matter which end.

The rules clearly state that " It is allowed to build a road in an unconquered region provided one of the two end points border a conquered region."So yes, you can :) of course, building roads in that particular region would be a risk, cause if someone plays "rural unrest" on you, you'll get screwed on that one :)

stole the question right out of my mouth! I was just about to post this question myself....

Incidentally is the blue leg going directly up (north) an allowable play? It looks wrong to me....

It seems odd, but it may be legal.

Clearly HATUN is unconquered (the region that road is in) and HUANUCO PAMPA is unconquered. However, the region to the right of HUANUCO PAMPA may be conquered already when this blue road was placed. That would allow the placement.

It might also explain how the east-west blue road was placed since MACHU PICCHU must be conquered for it to exist. (Perhaps orange conquered MACHU PICCHU and the region to the east of HATUN allowing blue to place both of those roads.)

Highly unlikely however...
