I ran a Candy Land Tournament last over the weekend at the Nuke-Con gaming convention to benefit Toys for Tots. I only took notes on the first two games from Friday night.

The first game started out slow as our youngest competitor, 4 year old Duncan managed to only move three spaces on his first three turns. Floyd got out of the box strong, drawing doubles on 3 of his first four turns. Ronnie then started bouncing all over the board by drawing the Candy Cane, the Ice Cream Cone and the Lollipop, before being sent all the way back to the Gumdrop.

I began to worry when half way through the game no one had drawn a blue. I had moved all the miscut, oversized cards to the bottom of the deck and thought they had all been blues. But we finally hit one, and then a run of them before we got to the oversized cards.

In the end Duncan and Geoff both drew back to back double blues to jump into the lead. Duncan was able to edge Geoff out on the last turn and get the come from behind victory. He won dinner for two at the Texas Roadhouse.

The second game was a yo-yo match as Duncan's mom Richell jumped out to an early lead thanks to the Lollipop, but then got pulled back to the Gingerbread Man when she was one card away from winning. That continued as players got large leads, then were pulled way back by candy cards. Finally Richell was able to snag an Ice Cream Cone and a few doubles to sprint to the end, earning a pass for two to a local theater.

In all Nuke-con raised over $200 and collected more than 2 dozen toys for the local Toys for Tots campaign.
