I saw some chrome silver dice for Irondie labeled "Ultra Rare" for 30$ each at my local store. I am guessing since there is no mention of them in the rules that they are for collection purposes only but I can't find confirmation of this anywhere.

Maybe they are rare specialized die (Rare Black Smasher, Rare Red Assault etc)?

I don't think they are. I've seen the rare dice, they have white details on them. These don't look like any of the regular colors, they are just chrome silver not white or black.

Perhaps the dice are just raw dice before getting their color like these: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/image/1085822/irondie

The silver dice have the silver layer plating transparent varnished, but without color in the varnish. We still won't tell what the functions of these silver dice will be in game purposes because we do not want to unbalance the game before proper testing. But the look is cool, and so we decided to give them in exclusive for a test period to retailers, without selling on site and giving them an edge on sales.
An even more limited run of just 3 shapes in gold (real gold, yep, you can use it as a teeth replacement!) plating has been done, for some special retailers/distributors. No more than 200pieces has been done so far. more in the future?
Unpainted , another small run for special paint contests. If you paint your Irondie, we should run a contest, what you think?

enjoy
