The rules state that you may continue rolling until you voluntarily end your turn or you fail.
Under 'A) finishes his turn voluntarily' it states that a player may finish his turn voluntarily at any time. At least one dice must show a worm otherwise it is a failed attempt. If the sum of the dice reaches exactly the value of a roasted worm.... and so on.
To me this implies if I have set aside any worms I can end my turn at any time whether or not the sum adds up to enough to take a tile.
Under 'B) causes a failed attempt' It says if you cannot take any worm portion at the end of your turn because the sum is not high enough or you haven't set aside worms.
This is confusing to me because if I A) voluntarily end my turn I have not failed and need not look at column B.
Does anyone know the official rules as the designer intended? If you have worms set aside and choose to end your turn but do not have enough points to take a worm do you fail or just end your turn? Please note in your reply if it is your opinion or the rules as given by the designer. Thanks.

I'm not going to reread the rules, but why do you think that in a press your luck dice rolling game, you could end your turn, "failing" to take any worms, yet not count it as a failed attempt? Maybe the exact wording is a little unclear but the intent is not (to me).

He can also end his turn earlier if he chooses to. However, this only makes sense if he can take a worm helping from the grill or another player.

No voluntary ending of your turn, without taking a chance of losing a tile. If a person got three or four worms early in the game, they might just skip their future turns and perhaps win the game, but that's not part of the game.
The "voluntarily" part means you can decide to quit your turn at any point, but you take the consequences when you do so, such as giving up your last tile.

I think this makes it clear that you either capture a tile or lose one (if you have one to lose),

What about that makes it clear? Just because it only makes sense to them - or to you - to end your turn when you can take something doesn't mean you are guaranteed to get punished if you end it without taking something. I suppose Reiner doesn't peruse these forums to give official answers eh?

Why would it "only make sense" to end your turn early if you can obtain a worm helping if you could also end your turn early and not risk incurring a penalty? Surely that would be another very good reason...

You can only end a turn by either loosing your topmost tile (or none if you have none) or by taking a tile. Other wise it's no longer a "push your luck" game but a "wait until you get lucky" game.
Example: You've got two worm dice aside then you roll: [worm] That puts you at 20 points. Assume that only the 25 brick is still available. Now you have to roll again and hope for a 5.
If you could just say "Well it doesn't look like I'm gonna get something this round so I better stop before I loose something" then nobody would ever risk loosing a tile and no tile would ever be removed from the grill. Thus you would have to play until every single high numbered tile has been won and considering how difficult that is it won't be long until most turns will be passes because people don't want to loose whatever tiles they already have.
So even if some interpretation of the rules might allow it, it would just completely destroy the game.
