Wondering if someone can clarify a few things related to the elusive Monster ability.

1. If you have an encounter that indicates "A Monster Appeared!" and then draw a monster with the Elusive ability, can the investigator automatically evade the monster rather that rolling to evade the monster?

2. If Wendy Adams meets an elusive Monster in the streets would her "streetwise" ability allow her to automatically engage the monster in combat if she chooses, rather than her needing to roll an evade check to engage the monster?

Any insight is much appreciated.

Specifically, the investigator has to pass an evade check to initiate combat. Otherwise he can freely ignore the monster and send it back to the cup. It is up to your discretion whether the Werewolf deals its stamina damage to you in such a case or if it's a movement-only thing. Camps remain divided, but mostly on what the word "enters" means.

If you're playing with the old Dark Pharaoh and you're surprised by an elusive monster, you're forced to ignore it because by design it's impossible to even make the initial evade check.

It's an evade check, and she can pass those for free, so yes. Note that this also applies to an investigator with a Sedanette driving past a Serpent Person or one of Tulzscha's cultists.

Hmm.

We play it that the monster hangs around on the board, adding to the monster limit (and terror level) and that it's in the Investigators best interest to hunt it down.

Looking at the rules I don't see a mention of "send it back to the cup".

In the base game's rules, any monsters from "a monster appears!" encounters that aren't taken as trophies are returned to the cup. They never remain on the board.

"A gate and monster appears!" encounters are different—they're like regular gate openings—and the monsters then count against the limit. This also means that you can't deal with the monster immediately even if you wanted to: the gate draws you in first.

It's a common newbie mistake, for good reason. The wording between "a monster appears" and "a monster and gate appear" are so similar, but they are very different.

The former is supposed to represent a random confrontation with a creature. The latter is supposed to be analogous to a Mythos gate opening.

The Silver Key is also a very nice item to have when Tulzscha is the Herald.
