Hi all,

my playgroup and me have a little question regarding the use of weapon cards, specifically the ones which cost 0 AP/CAPS to play (grenades and the lot)...

In the rulebook it is stated that using one of these cards constitutes an action. However, as far as I interpret the rules, weapon cards are not associated with a particular unit until used. This raised an issue in our last game whereby my opponent had a spent unit which got engaged in CC by one of my fresh units (which would certainly spell doom for his men arrrh ). However, said player than decided to use his Molotov cocktail card to attack. Even though his unit was spent already, he argued that a) the Molotovs cost 0 AP/CAPs to use and b) that this cards is not explicitly associated with any particular unit (just like a regular action card). Thus in his view there should be no problem to utilize said card against my attacking unit.

I agreed actually, after which he dutifully continued to wipe out my attacking unit ninja . However, in the post-game discussion we both felt that even though it the rules seemingly allow this particular use of weapon cards, it feels a bit contrived and against the nature of the game to have a spent unit 'attack'. On the other hand, CAP use also allows 'spent' attacks...

So what say you, oh collective CoH mind? Did we interpret the rules right in our use of the weapon card, or were we mistaken?

Cheers meeple

Yes, any unit that could have AP or CAP spent on it, even if there are none to spend can use a 0 AP card.

Awesome! Just goes to show that over-thinking things is not always the best course of action .

Oh, and cheers to both of you for the quick response thumbsup !

It is not just 'gamey'. You did not know the rules.
But IMAGINE.
Soldiers would not be willing to shorten their distance to enemy so willingly had they known that enemy had great deal of flaming liquid bottles.
Therefore different approach would be expected. FF6 is a great illustration.
