I have been working on painting 4 sets of armies and recently completed the Union troops. I am now torn about how to go about applying flags... Should I use the ones supplied or go about printing custom flags.

Thread with flag resource links:
http://boardgamegeek.com/article/5851206#5851206

I realize this is a personal decision but am curious about how others have gone about dealing with it...

What paper did you use for custom flags?
What type of printer was used?
How to make them look wavy?

If your 'Troops' were representative of some distinguished 'Formation', then perhaps you ought to denote thus with the actual historical rendition for their "colors". Those appear overall to result in a much better aesthetic pleasing demeanor in this fashion, rather than what you currently have for the game's kind.

Unless you painted everything Union Blue and Rebel Grey, you should use custom flags.

Mine where printed with high quality ink-jet paper, glued with white glue, and sprayed with the same varnish used for the troops.

first off, I'd like to see your painted figures.

About your question... I will be using custom flags for my figures when I finish them. I have used sheets of sticker paper folded and curled around a paintbrush to form for other sets.

A couple of years ago, I went to the link you provided, downloaded and made custom flags from that site. I'm very happy with the results and it particularly makes it's easier to identify the various generals -each now with distinctive flags. I am able to relate more to the units and generals movements during the course of a given battle.

I'm just about done painting the Confederate army, I just have to add the finishing touches to the cavalry.

None of the soldiers are painted (intentionally) to represent a specific regiment. I went with a non-uniform painting scheme for each army but painted enough of the pieces to look similar. Many of the rebel infantry look pretty shabby.

I have been researching the flags because with 4 sets of soldiers I have a lot of leeway in selecting the regimental flags. Hmmm....

I also have 12 generals per side so I should be able to represent most of the leaders from the scenarios... need to do more research there.

Now we need some epic scenarios.

Ok... The painting is done and the majority of flags have been printed and mounted.

The problem I have is I that I need more command flags for the generals of each army.

Does anyone have a good web source?
I have 12 generals and would like individualized banners.

I should be able to get photos posted this coming weekend.

Photos posted... (pending GeekAdmin approval...)

Edit: Apparently the BGG PhotoAdmin has their head stuck somewhere unpleasent so I have posted the images to my gallery.

Edit 2:
I printed the flags on Avery Mailing Lables #8257 and then cut them out.
If you are interested in a set send me a geek mail with an outside e-mail address and I will forward the 4 PDFs I made.
