I own the base CitOW game but have never sleeved the cards, and I am now considering doing so while also adding the Horned Rat expansion into my online purchase.

Given the fact that the Upgrade cards are mostly (if not entirely) replaced in the expansion, are there enough additional cards also rendered essentially obsolete to the point that it wouldn't be necessary to obtain as many boxes of sleeves as recommended on the FFG web site?

Just trying to be efficient--thanks in advance for any help.

The Chaos cards and Upgrade cards are not permanent replacements. They're more of a variant for when you feel like using them. There aren't really any cards rendered obsolete. Sleeving everything is probably the best option.

If you do sleeve everything, here are the totals:

Base game:
96 small cards
53 large cards

Horned Rat:
120 small cards
39 large cards

Totals:
216 small cards
92 large cards

Ah, I see--I was operating from the standpoint that I'd read so many complaints about the Upgrade cards from the base game, I assumed the Horned Rat versions were supposed to replace them entirely (or I imagine people at least prefer them).

Regardless,

I'm sure some people might have replaced them entirely, but it's not the official way of handling things.

I've just sleeved the expansion Chaos Cards. The Old World cards and upgrades won't get much tear on them as the players don't fiddle with them constantly, and I don't plan on using the base game set again, Morrslieb seems to play better.
