After playing a few good, fairly close games, I look on BBG for any rules we may have missed or played incorrectly. I read that instead of just keeping the point for the replaced card, you get another point for taking that action! Had we played it that way, it would have been a blowout. New York won both games (against the Mutants, and the Merchants), and with all the rebuilding they have to do to incorporate long distances, it would have been 5-8 more points, turning close games (3pt & 5pt wins) into a curb stomp.
Isn't the ability to ignore distance when rebuilding a great enough reason to do it (same with leaders and their 0 distance)? I know that when I was playing New York, it was a game winner even without the bonus point. Has this not been anyone else's experience?
Should I not tell my friends of the real rule? They've already commented on how drawing a lions share of leaders is a big advantage, and that's NOT counting the bonus point. It seems like the game would devolve into a game of who ca rebuild the most and who draws the most leaders. That doesn't sound like a game I would like more.

Rebuidling and killing leaders is sth that I don't like either. I mean, additional points. but the author insisted on that rule that it makes sense. if you want, play just without these points.

I played the first 5 or 6 games not knowing the rule about the extra points and now that I play with them it does seem that the redevelopment points are easy but only the first one per turn can be done with a brick. Subsequent redevelops need redevelop tokens that are hard to come by.2 points per turn is not that powerful when an average game only lasts 5 or 6 turns.
