It's that time of year! I'm ready, are you?

Please read this entire post to re-familiarize yourself with how it works. I think it answers all your questions.

THE MICROBADGE: Anyone who can help with the microbadge creation process, please do so! I never understand how the sausage is made and really appreciate my yearly microbadge elves' help.**

What's new?

I love administering the Christmas Card Exchange but each year I've done it, it has presented some steep challenges to my schedule. I have the little almost-three-year-old Eddie to contend with so I am implementing a few tweaks.

1. Please do not sign up to send more than 20 cards.
2. Please do not expect to receive any more than 10 cards.

I think that the high-volume participants sort of disproportionately added to the number of hours I spent matching them up with recipients as well as making sure they were set to receive a fair number of cards in return. I am hopeful this change will help a lot.

Now! To recap how it works: all you do to sign up is geekmail me your name and snail-mail address. Tell me how many cards you would like to mail out; mailing more than one card was an option many chose last year but choosing to send one card is also absolutely great.

[If you do opt to send multiple cards, I do not guarantee a "one for one" exchange rate (ie, if you send cards to 10 geeks, I am not guaranteeing you'll receive exactly ten in return). I think everyone will be pleased with the number they receive, though, so don't worry that if you send 10 out you'll only get one back. It will be way closer to ten than that.]

There is no gift element here -- just a fun way to say "happy holidays" to geeks around the world. The variety of holiday cards people have sent over the years was very broad, and it was fun out of all proportion to see cards from other lands, homemade cards, game-themed cards, etc. Everyone has really had a great time with this.

And please be clear that people of all traditions are welcome and encouraged to participate. People of no tradition are welcome and encouraged to participate, for that matter. Part of the charm will be in receiving cards from cultures and traditions different than your own, if you ask me!

Make a card, buy a card, either way, just reach out and make a new friend. Wish a German geek "Froehliche Weihnachten!" and tell your new suntanned geek friend on Oahu, "Mele Kalikimaka!"

This year you have until November 18 to get signed up.

PS: Folks who live outside the USA: Please make sure that you show me exactly how your address should appear on the envelopes of cards being sent to you. Address formatting around the world varies wildly and I don't want anything getting lost.

In the confusion and the aftermath you are my signal fire. Hold me close, 'cause I need you to guide me to safety. The only resolution and the only joy is the faint spark of forgiveness in your eyes, I don't want to wait forever...

Include me again Connie. You did a great job last year and I had a very good response from a wide variety of people from all over the world. I looked forward to getting the mail every day. ( I even got one from CHILE that did not get to me until sometime in January because it took more than 15 days to go from CHILE to MASSACHUSETTS, and you think our U.S. POSTAL SERVICE is slow sometimes!!
