So to make the old version:
Don't play with the Favor of the pope token, only the Condottiere piece. Remove all spring and all the courtesans (except 5 which you will use as 1 point mercenaries) and remove 3 of the bishops whose power works as follows in the second edition: The Bishop ends the battle, no one wins, all cards are discarded and the Condottiere token passes to the left.
so here are the contents of the old version:
96 cards
- 15 X 1 point mercenaries (use 5 courtesans from the new vers and play them as regular 1 point mercenaries)
- 8 X 2,3,4,5,6 & 10 point mercenaries
- 15 X Scarecrows (take one scarecrow out of the new vers.)
- 6 X drummers
- 3 X Bishops (Dump 3 bishops from the new vers. and he ends the battle, no winner & all cards are discarded)
- 3 X Surrenders
- 3 X Winters
- 3 X Heroines
- 1 wooden Condottoere token
-60 control markers (6 different colors ten markers per player)
and voila you have original Condotierre
