Hey folks, just got the expansion today and the new threat cards are noticably larger than the ones from the base game. I can't really mix them in without it being obvious which ones are the new ones
... just curious if anybody's run into an issue with the sizes of their expansion threat cards not matching the base games...

That's really strange. I got my expansion back in January and the card sizes matched exactly.

I'm very sorry for this inconvenience. I already answered to both guys by email (they contacted us with our web form) and we are now trying to find with the printer what happened.

We found what was wrong:
In the printer they had problem with cutting machine for the cards at the moment when we ordered reprint of English Space Alert base game this year. So they decided to give this to external company to make games in time. Unfortunately this external company took smaller tool for making cards and nobody checked if they are right size in the printer. So they made whole shipment of Space Alert with these wrong sized cards.
This weekend there will be new web page where everybody who has Space Alert with wrong sized cards will be able to request replacement. I will post link to it here.

I want to post small update.
The printer will have replacements next week. They had some problems with paper but it is resolved now and next week they will be able to send replacements. Web for requests will be online shortly before.

I actually had an issue with the heroic action cards in the basic game... the printing on the backs of some of the cards were offset, thus effectively marking the cards. They are still playable, just dealing them out without looking at them, but its a little annoying. I contacted the game company and they sent me a replacement set.... of the regular action cards and not of the heroic actions. At that point I didn't see it as important enough to push it further.
I'm a big fan of the game, but haven't added the expansion cards yet... so I will check them when I get home!

I have the smaller cards and am thinking about getting the expansion, but have to hold off until I know I can get replacements.

I was also very disappointed that the card sizes don't match.
I contacted Czech Games Jan 18th. Contacted Rio Grande today Jan 21st. And I'm ranting here on the BGG, well, ehm... today.

This is a reply I received, supposedly from Rio Grande [riogames at aol dot com] which, not surprisingly, went straight to my spam:
"Thank you, Philippe Leroux This is the "official" offer from Czech Games: Please send $10.00 (continental US), $11.00 (Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, and Canada), or $18.00 (elsewhere) to our paypal account - cafejay@aol.com. Include a note with your address and what you need and we will send the Galaxy Trucker upgrade kit. Thanks Jay"
There is no way I would send money in answer to this type of email, which does not even address Space Alert and post it here to: 1. Ask you what a real response should look like. 2. Raise awareness to this scam.
If I'm wrong and this is legit... I'd be VERY disappointed in Rio Grande. Very disappointed, as in "never buy anything with your name on it again" disappointed.
Edit: To be fair, as I realize it had only been 4 days, I recontacted kreken (who previously posted here), Jay Tummelson (who is, as I understand, Rio Grande) and this "riogames at aol dot com" address. Still waiting to hear from Czech Games' customer service.
I'll give it time, as I realize my world would be pretty dreary without trust in Rio Grande's customer service, or Czech Game as I really like playing Space Alert!

I am sorry as it appears I may have created problems due to my mistake in understanding some requests regarding the card problem with the Space Alert expansion. I confused it with the previous offer from Czech Games to players who bought their original version (prior to the cooperation with RGG) that had cards and components of different quality than the version we did together. For this, they created an upgrade kit which we offer for the cost of postage for those player who bought the original Galaxy Trucker and wanted the newer components - that were also compatible with the GT Big Expansion. The problem with the Space Alert expansion cards is, as Petr suggested here, one that he is working with his printer and replacement cards will be made available AT NO COST to players when they are available. When they are available, we both will make an announcement so players know how to get the corrected cards. Again, I apologize for any confusion I caused by my mistake in confusing the two myself.

I write as a much reassured geek.
Czech Game's customer service (Lenka) came back to me on this last week, I provided my address and was told I'd have the cards in two weeks. They arrived today, priority mail. I do not know if that is the regular service level or if it's because I made some noise, but that was much, much faster than expected.
I am unsure if I owe an apology to Czech Games and Rio Grande and I don't like to owe anything to anyone, so I'll do it anyway: if I was impatient and overly prudent in this email adventure, please accept my apologies.
Now, clarifying for those whose cards don't match when they buy New Frontier: - The faulty cards are those from the base game, not the expansion you just bought. - Go to Czech Games' website and send them an email: http://czechgames.com/en/contact/ - Check your email spam folder (possibly) for an answer. - They'll need your mailing address and the game number from a sticker in the box: SA**-****-****. There is no online form. - The replacement cards should be free.
