I have searched the Rule forum already but seems no one asked this question before.
I have played 3 times and last time I faced a case that when revealed the event card: The King will not grant an audience (For the next round no benefit is gained from ongoing privilege cards (the only exclusion is “Jack”)).
Someone has placed master builder on Archbishop Office to protect from this event.
However, I have held a Archbishop Thomas (In a later round, you may ignore the event card (after it is revealed)) privilege card on hand already. Thus, can I use this privilege card immediately and claim for ignore this event? Or The event still affected me on next round?
Thanks for attention and answer my question.

Archbishop Thomas is worded the way it is so that you cannot retroactively go back and cancel an event in the same round you claim him (as you get privilege cards in step 4 of the round, well after events are revealed in step 1). However, as long as you claimed Thomas in a previous round to the current one, you may cancel the effects of any event (including "The King will...") in the current round.
I hope that helps!

Thanks Alex to explain!
Maybe I have written not so clearly, actually I have this privilege card on hand already on previous 2 rounds, before step 1) revealing the event "The King will....". Thus, as your explanation, I confirm that under this situation I can claim the privilege card effect to cancel this event card effect.

Yes, I believe that's what Alex is saying. If you get the card in round 3, and then in Round 5 you want to use him, that's fine.
Basically, think of it as being your own personal one-time Archbishop spot, and it must be played at the same time the Archbishop's Office space is resolved for whomever claimed it. So, because the Kingbridge Town spaces, with the Privilege Cards, are resolved after the Archbishop's Office, by the time you get the card in a particular round, you will have already missed the chance to use it that round; you must wait till the next round at least.
