This is the OUT OF CHARACTER thread for Chapter 1 of our Margreve campaign... Feel free to ask questions, clarify rules, discuss things amongst yourselves (tactics, plans, the weather, etc.)

Treat this thread as the normal chatter between players and DM which is not directly in character (i.e. anything not in character conversations, conversations with NPCs, story reveal, or combat -- those things will be in the In Character thread.

This thread is open for business! Please subscribe to this thread as it will contain all of the out of character discussions for the Prelude. You should also subscribe to the In Character thread as it will contain all of the in character discussion, maps, combat, story, etc. for the first chapter.

Is the group actually in the Margreve right now? I was under the impression that we left at the end of the prelude, but I'm not sure if we're back in the borders now or not.

Too close for comfort, either way

But good question - do we have a map for reference?

A map??? Of the Margreve? Surely something so mysterious cannot be mapped!

You spent most of the morning traveling through fields dotted with clumps of trees - past the river you crossed the previous night, the main forest has been left behind. However, you are really just skirting its edge - were it a clear day, you could likely see the treeline. And Levoca perches just a bit inside the forest's edge.

That may not entirely answer your question...but that's intentional!

Yeah, I was guessing that we wouldn't really know what the forest claimed as borders, but that's mostly what I was looking for. Thanks!

You guys should settle on a usual marching order at some point, now that the new guy is here.

As stated in the IC thread, Oskar would prefer to be towards the back, but not right at the back, something like 4th or 5th in line.

This is mainly because his spells aren't long ranged and he only has short legs...

I'm waiting for someone else to act, at least partly because I feel like I've hogged the spotlight a bit over the last 15-20 posts.

No worries - Sam and Octavian are more or less offline this week, so I'm trying to take things at a leisurely-ish pace. Hog as much as you want; we'll slow back down again if things get dramatic.

Hi Guys! Sorry I've been missing - I'm back now and will catch up with the game by tomorrow night.

I've been looking at my character sheet and I've resolved to try and use more of my judgement powers, which are really the thing that makes the inquisitor stand out - so look for the use of those in the near future.

Well, there is the map Kaine jotted down from the spidery webs that overtook the area before we left the tavern courtyard whistle

Ha! Good point! I pictured that as more a symbolic map, with a few major landmarks that you could identify to get a rough direction (like the river, Grandfather's Tears, the mountains to the northeast, and the Old North Road along which the inn lay). It's not the kind of map that would care much about borders....

That said, I should draw something up so you guys get some context. I'll work on that at some point, though possibly not before I leave for Thanksgiving.

I didn't imagine it was anything too detailed - it struck me as more symbolic than topographic, to be honest, and I thought it might come in handy more when we come across an unfamiliar symbol or word or something rather than as a map to lead us to our destination.

Just a reminder to everyone - I'm going away for the Thanksgiving holiday tomorrow afternoon - I'll be back on Saturday. I will try to get one more post in before I leave. Hopefully I'll be able to check in while I am away, but no guarantees!

(My GMs in other games, please take note!)

My first thought on seeing the map: 'holy crap, that's a big squirrel!' Of course, I then read the text...

Do you want us to roll initiative, either in our own posts or as a roll added to yours? Or just state our action?

Doh! I forgot yet again to check "Enable Public Die Rolls" after previewing the map. Just roll for init on the post, then we'll go through action-by-action.
