In our last game,a strange disagreement occured about placing Hussars.
The Austrian wanted to place Hussars in the Bohemian map who would be covered by an Austrian General in the Flanders map.
Neither the rules nor faqs reffer to such a situation.
The rules mention exactly that the Hussars must be placed within the Bohemian map and 4 cities away from an Austrian General.
But the French player (who would lose some cards from such a play) argued that "If the Hussars must ONLY be placed in Bohemia, then they should be covered by a Generan IN Bohemia" while the Austrian countered that he "didn't violate any written rule and also that Austrian Generals can freely move between the maps".
We all agreed that there is a blank of rule here so we would like an official answer.
Can the Austrian place Hussars covered by a General in the Flanders' Map?

Although I can understand the opinion / interpretation that the general should be on the Bohemian map as well, this is not true.
The hussar must be placed on the Bohemian map. And the chosen city must be in a distance of 4 to an Austrian general. That's what the rules say.
Therefore the general can be on the Flanders map.
The only exception would be a general in an off-map box (here: Italy-box). Such a general would not count for hussar placement.

However, isn't that the distance concept that between Flanders and Bohemian maps is pretty far, rather than 4 spaces in either map?

Played the first time this week... When I heard "bohemian map"... I thought they should be placed in Austria territory only... was I wrong? Can they also be placed in Bavaria or Silesia??

Under "3.2 The game board and political display", 1st bullet point:
Quote: The game board includes 2 maps: The Flanders map and the Bohemia map. Therefore, "the Bohemia map" refers to greater area including Prussia, Poland, Saxony, Silesia, Bavaria and Austria. Also, on the upper left hand corner of the map, it is written "MAP BOHEMIA".
Under "7 Hussars", the 3 requirements (bold & underlined) of placement of hussars are: on an empty city on the Bohemia map within 4 cities from an Austrian general.
So, yes. The hussars can be placed in Bavaria or Silesia.
