We played our first games last night and loved it, but still a little hazy on how to implement the Star Players.

So if you draw a Star Player, the rules say you immediately place them on the top of your draw deck for next week, meaning they'll automatically get to play. But what do you do with them for subsequent weeks? Do they get discarded after that first week? Do they just get shuffled in with the other players? Or do they always get placed at the top of the deck?

Free Booters, while not as good as Star Players, seem to take a permanent place in your deck.

They just get shuffled in, in following weeks. They stay on your roster.

Freebooters are basically improved versions of your basic players, similar to Silver/Mystic/Heavy Infantry/Improved Role/Commander cards in other recent deckbuilders.

They are permanent. When you first get them, they go to the top of the deck to ensure that you draw them in the next round (if you have less than 6 cards in hand of course). Once you play them, they get discarded as normal. Once your deck runs out, they get reshuffled as normal.

So the only difference between Star Players and Freebooters and regular players (besides their abilities) is how they get into your deck. Once there, they all get played the same.

Star Players are big name guys that have signed with your team for the season. The reason you put them on the top of the deck is so that they make an immediate impact. They are part of your team though for the rest of the season (game) so they get shuffled in when your deck is exhausted and they can play in future week's match-ups. Freebooters are better than average players who bump out an average player from your roster. To represent this you can chunk a crummy player (almost certainly a lineman type) and replace him with a good up and comer. Since you have to search your deck and/or discard pile and he is just a better than average but normal guy it creates a reshuffle (so hiring a freebooter resets your team deck). After that Star Players are placed on top of the deck to make sure you get them making a difference right away.

Freebooters can be very useful for teams such as the Orcs, who have little to no ability to manage their deck.

Hiring a freebooter causes the deck to be shuffled, allowing important position players to be returned to the draw deck.

So on reshuffling - since the first week you only have 12 cards, and play 6, aren't you essentially just swapping the two stacks of 6 cards each week? It isn't until you get Star Players and Freebooters that you have over 12 cards and things start to vary, correct?

If you have Sprinting players or cycling abilities, it doesn't work like that. If you don't adding a freebooter mixes it up. Just keep in mind you won't always have a pick (freebooter vs. star), so you can't reshuffle automatically by getting 1 or more star players.

Also remember that you don't have to commit the 6 players in your hand this round. So you might keep a couple and then be drawing less next turn as you only draw up to 6.

On the swapping thing - remember you shuffle the discard every time that you need to draw from the empty deck, so whilst to begin with everyone not in your first hand will be in your second one, your third hand won't necessarily be even similar to the first

Or let all the useless ones you have just gotten rid off get back into your deck....
