Unfortunatly, I guess Mayfair does not believe in uploading rules for people to read before purchasing it. Its their choice as far as marketing the game goes and I don't want to skirt that decision per se.

However, I was wondering if there were any rules from the empire builder series that are available to check out (maybe Mayfair has uploaded rules to other games?). I have not played any of games from the series, but I am curious about learning about china's geography and so I was thinking this would be a good intro to crayon rails and learn a bit....but again, I hate to buy my games blind...I've made that mistake too many times in the past!

I found a set of rules to empire builder here:
http://www.sorvan.com/games/empirebuilder/EmpireBuilder.pdf
(copyright 1988)

via this website that was directly linked from mayfair's site:
http://www.railgamefans.com/ebp/

Just curious any big changes from these Empire Builder rules to China rails?

Though it doesn't explain the rules in Mayfair style, Italian Rails is the same sort of game and has freely downloadable rules here:

No, not really. There are ferries and some special rules for Taiwan and some different wrinkles in event cards, but nothing substantial.

Thanks! I'll check it out as soon as I read the empire builder rules! Maybe I'll even get around to learning Italy's geography first!

We like the China version quite a bit and play it often as well, especially with Chinese friends. In the past it has gone on sale from time to time and friends got a good deal on it. Perhaps one of these will happen again before or after holidays.

Salutations !

One can go to
http://bretm.home.comcast.net/~bretm/rails.html
and download a Windows computer version of the Mayfair 'crayon-rails' games, free.

Should you like it and get the boardgames, consider using the 'public-locking' rule variant. Takes some of the 'really bad card draw - I'm *&^#$%@*&' out of the game.
