Hello,
I am new to the game (picked it up a month. o for the first time) and so are my friends.
We have a few rule questions we'd want clarified:

1) The rules and FAQ imply that if a combat changes i.e. monsters. Iare enhanced, annihalated, then it is possible to withdraw one shot items that wrre used. Is that true? If so when and which?

2) The hierling allows me to carry an extea item "that otherwise i wouldn't be able to carry". Does it work similarly to Cheat?
Obviously I can carry two helms or three hands worth of weapons, but can i carry opposite sex race or class cards?
3) on the same note, can Cheat allow me to use mre then 2 hands worth of weapons?
4) I've aquired items out of my turn - through curse, helping in combat or otherwise. Can i put said items into play now? Or do i have to wait my turn? What about turning items sideways?
5) I'm pretty sure i know this one: a race card can be discarded at any time, but items such as fake beard/ears cannot be?
6) if i have the Kneepads of allure, sideways, and someone plays exploding kneecaps, do i suffer the worse results?

I thought of a couple more while posting:
6) Can Halfbreed and super munchkin be put into play even when you have no race/class?I know they will have no effect, I'm asking since the line (lose the card if you lose your race/class" implies it cannot be used alobe.
7)If a wandering monster is played and defeated, do you win it's levels as well?on the same note, can you munchkiningly wander monsters into your owners combat?
8) Can players trade items, under any circumstances? i.e. at all?

1) one shot itens are.... one shot itens! You can only use them once! (Usable once only itens too)

2) I dont know, in my group we treat it as a big item (one can only carry 1 big item at any time, but with a mercenary you can carry another one.

3) Yes! You can cheat!! How awesome is that!?

4) I dont know about equipping them right away, but you cant turn item sideways (equip or unequip) during combat.

5) Correct!!! You cant throw away a fake beard in the middle of combat.

6) I dont know this "Exploding Kneecaps" card.

Cheers!!!

I don't have the rules in front of me, so I'm going off my experience and knowledge of the game.

You have to play them either immediately upon acquiring them or on your turn outside of combat.

You cannot equip/unequip items in the middle of combat unless you drop your race/class and are forced to drop items exclusive to that race/class, in which case you lose the cards.

7) You win a level for every monster defeated (unless the monster card says otherwise)

8) Players can trade ITEM cards that are IN PLAY (on the table) on their respective turns!

Cheers!

I'm going off memory here...

1. Where is that implied? Once you use the item it's done. The only exception I can think of is the one that cancels a helper joining the battle which says on the card itself that he gets to keep the cards he played. Or the potion of transference which changes who fights the monster, so everything is reset.

2. The hireling lets you carry and use an extra big item. You normally can only carry 1.

3. Sure it can, but it only applies to one item.

4. The items you get as treasure from helping defeat a monster can be immediately played when you get them. Otherwise you have to wait for your turn.

5. Right.

6. You aren't wearing the kneecaps, only carrying. So no, you're fine.

1) I don't think the rules nor the FAQ imply any such thing. There are some specific cards that say things like people who played monster enhancers may take them back, but it is VERY clearly specified on each card in those cases.
2) No, it does not allow you to Cheat. It only lets you carry (and use) one extra Big Item.
3) Certainly, that's more or less what it's for. Think of the cheated card as having no restrictions on it; no hands/head/armor/footwear tags, no big tags, no sex/race limits, etc.
4) The rules, under Items, say you can play them on your turn or when you just received them. So yes, you can play them as soon as you get them. But if you don't, you have to wait for your turn.
5) Race/Class can be discarded at any time (even during combat), new ones can only be played during your turn (but still, even during combat). Items can never just be discarded. You have to sell them for levels. As long as you're not in combat, you can always stop using them though (turning them sideways).
6) I'm pretty sure Exploding Kneecaps says "wearing", so if you're not using them you're not wearing them.

6 again?) No. You need at least one race to have Halfbreed, and you MUST have 2 classes one class to play Super Munchkin. If you lose your one race/class and can't immediately replace it, you also lose the half breed/super munchkin card.
7) Remember you always fight ALL the monsters in the combat TOGETHER! NOT one monster THEN anoter! Combine ALL the levels, ALL the bonuses, ALL the effects. THAT is the number you need to beat, all at once. And if you do, yes you of course get levels and treasures as normal for all the monsters in the combat. You can indeed wander monsters into your own combat, but be aware that it can quickly spiral out of your control :)
8) Items in play can be traded, as long as the traders are not in combat.

I believe I read somewhere that the newer Super Munchkin cards no longer have this restriction, and behave like Halfbreed. I might be mistaken, and I don't have time to track it down right now since "Super Munchkin" returns mainly hits for Super Munchkin instead of the card.

You are right. Super Munchkin now is treated just like the Half-breed card.

The hireling from Munchkin 1 and 3 counts as a "killable" Cheat card. The hireling can carry an use for you any item you otherwise can't use (race/class/sex restrictions and doesn't count against your body slot limitiation -Head/foot gear, armor, hands-).
The hireling it doesn't have sex unless you want to give him one. after that the hireling's sex doesn't change.

Thank you all for replying!

1) I've re-read the rules and faq, can't seem to find where it was implied indeed. I must have remembered it from some card.

2) i must have misread the hireling card

8) what about blackmail? "give me that footgear, or i'll curse you?"

and a few new issues from last night's session:

9) If I announce I'm selling an item - can a thief still try and steal it before I do under the 2.6 rule?

10) Can the "Semi final strike":
Pick one Item that you are using that is not "usable once only." Get 3 times the normal bonus from that item, for a single combat. Then roll a die. On a 6, you get to keep the item; otherwise it is discarded. Usable once only.

be used on an item that is carried, but not equipped?

11) When faced with a Lust Monster - can a wizard charm it instead of fleeing it? the ability should be instead of fighting, but without aid he cant find it, so i'm thinking not

12) I know most card names contain hidden jokes - i laughed my ass off the first time I've read aloud the "auntie paladin" card name - but what's the joke with Blessed Mallet of St. Eeeeeeuuuuuuuuw ?

Thanks for all your help!

9) A Thief can only steal itens on his own turn.

10) idk how he pln to use that, but yes, if the item gives a bonus.

Some text on the cards are diferent from edition to edition. Specially after Ma 2010 revised edition. Check the official errata.
newsaidin wrote:

You can give items as long as you have them in play and you are not in combat. So if it's blackmail yes you can.
newsaidin wrote:

No. If you sell it it's too late to be theft. Notice that a thief can only steal only items you have in play (on the table).

I've dug up the Hireling card. mine says:
"Allows you to carry and use one extra item, even if you could not otherwise. if you lose your Hireling, the item goes too."
So it seems it IS a sort of cheat card.

As for the thief - from what I know a thief can steal from anyone at anytime as long as neither he nor the victim is in combat and he has cards to spare.
