Hi,

So, as a big twilight struggle fan, I have a little bit of difficulty understanding the value of continuing to put influence in countries after power struggles have removed the communists from power, apart perhaps to effect final scoring. Am I right in thinking that, in the normal flow of a game, once a country has "gone democratic" it is pretty much left largely untouched until perhaps the last few cards?

Yes pretty much so.

I've just read the rules and I also got that idea.

The scoring card is gone from the deck, no more communist bonus, so, yes, that country only counts for final scoring.
