Even including the soldier tokens module from the To Forge a Realm expansion, the eventual winner of the game is pretty much apparent by the spring/summer of year five (assuming that everyone survives the coming winter attack phase that is).

I would prefer to have a "reveal" of hidden points that keeps the winner more of an uncertainty until the game is completed. I think the reveal of points from completing tickets in Ticket to Ride is a good implementation of this.

With that in mind, does anyone use any kind of hidden scoring system in their Kingsburg games?

I have considered keeping the players building sheets hidden until the end of the game and then scoring points for each building at games end instead of scoring them when they are built. This is not the greatest solution since the building sheets are large and not easy to conceal.

Any other suggestions from the BGG community?

How about using SmallWorld victory tokens? Every time you score, take the appropriate value in tokens (those tokens are only printed on 1 side). At the end of the game, every player reveals their tokens.

hiding the building sheets is not a good idea since you need to know what powers each player has and also who has the most/least buildings.

I would just use poker chips or similar for non-building points and count up the buildings at the end (this is good since people often forget to get their building points). It is difficult to block specific people so I doubt people would bother trying to count up scores.

We always leave the player sheets open, but don't score those points until the end. We only score the bonuses that aren't trackable during the game.

This sort of gives it a "Stone Age" feel where you score some points during the game and some points after.

It isn't a perfect solution because you can figure out who's winning if you really want to, but I really don't want to.
