I own Alea Iacta Est (and enjoy it quite a bit). It sounds like this game is somewhat different from AIE, while still having some mechanics that are similar. Is it different enough to make it worthwhile?

It's a very different game, IMHO. I greatly prefer this one to AIE; it has a very puzzle-like quality, i.e. how to get the dice to do what I want with the manipulators I have.

Two different games, both using dice. To Court the King is a faster and simpler game, but nonetheless fun.

It also reminds me of Pickomino & Risk Express (without bonus modifications/rolls/dice) or even better, the recently published Elder Sign. And then I'd prefer the latter.
There's also quite a lot of Knatsch (aka Knights) in it. As that's also a game in which you improve using manipulators. But Knatsch adds interactivity as you'll be attacking each other. And set collection, plus multiple ways to victory. In fact, compared to all that, I don't get why this is scoring about 0,9 higher. Perhaps it's its simplicity, as in its core it's a race to become the first to reach a 7 of a kind. But they could have done more with it (f.i. sabotage each other a bit).
