Anyone have any opinion on which is the better solo game... ATZ or Dawn of the Zeds?
Thanks!

I have only played atz: the board game, but it is great solo. It feels like it was made for solitaire. Especially if you play the campaign game.

Ditto here. Only have played ATZ. Amazing solo experience. The Zeds and your companions take on a life of their own.

Having played both, I can say that they each play differently so you would not feel like your playing the same game, despite the similiar theme. If you have played any of the State of Siege series, then you have an idea what DaZ is about if not then I'll simply make a few comparisons. Both games offer a tense game play but since DaZ is conducted on a series of tracks, the game does not play as free flowing as ATZ. ATZ has a more "wargame" feel to it, so if you enjoy any of the LaL series, you'll be comfortable with it. Both games have a strong narrative flow, but again, because of the game design, ATZ feels more "cinematic", non-linear, and the linked campaiagn is excellent. I know it is wishy-washy to state that both games are excellent and you will not go wrong owning both, but if I had a Zombie at my throat, and I had to choose, it would be ATZ. Hope this helps....

JP, since you brought it up, my biggest heartache with ATZ is the linked campaign.
My biggest complaint is with the "firefight" scenario in which one group of survivors battles another. It feels kind of cheesy to know that I'm supposed to pick 3 specified enemy survivors for scenario 4, so thematically I shouldn't have them join my gang before I "kill" them in the "firefight" scenario. Just kind of limiting and quirky in my mind.
I would have like a larger pool of survivors to choose from. It would be easy enough to develop my own custom characters, but it would be nice, in my opinion, if there was more character variety.
I would like a random campaign scenario element available in addition to the scripted linked campaign. It would give the campaign element increased longevity if there were a variety of objectives that could be randomly experienced over a campaign (item search, defend location, race through or to location, locate survivors, rescue besieged survivors, etc.).
Anyway, all of my complaints can be resolved with house rules or variant development. Just wish the product would have included more of that in the official design.
JP, do you play the campaign as described in the rules, or have you developed your own house rules or variants? Care to share if you have developed your own rules or variants?
Having said all that, ATZ is a fun game, and I'm glad I own it. It provides a fairly unique experience, especially when played solo.
