Hello,

one small question.
Is it possible to walk to an unexplored edge --> 1 Movement (or in the country with a horse) and explore. After exploration I still have 1 Movement left (river movement...). Can I walk on the new tile and explore again?

Thanks

I don't have rules near me to quote, but I am pretty sure you cannot do this. At least we always played so - your movement step ends when you arrive at an unexplored point and explore it. The only possibility to move again during the same turn is to use whiskey (or vodka, as we call it here ).

Possible exception when the game has run out of tiles?

Yes, I think you are right. If there are no tiles, than you don't explore and can continue movement.

I am all for quoting the rules and not relying on random Geek memory, especially when the publisher has been awesome enough to make the rules readily available online!

2.b. Exploration

When a prospector moves to an intersection that is still partially unexplored, he must end his movement and explore the
land [...].

A.2.b. diamond-shaped land tiles

Once all 32 [diamond-shaped] land tiles have been placed, the ice block is immediately placed onto the spring tile. [...] At this point, movement along the edges of the explored landscape is permitted. Any remaining tiles are discarded.

So, no, you can NOT make a second move after exploration. Exploration ENDS movement. However, once all the rhombic land tiles have been placed, there is no Exploration, so you can then move through incomplete intersections. (We have reached the cliffs that surround the valley!)

We made this rule because otherwise it was too easy for us to end the game by using horse or boat.
