My son loves watching me play games on Boardgamearena.com ... especially Can't Stop. So I went to get a copy of the game.

Couldn't find one (and I do plan on getting a copy eventually), but my wife lovingly created a board. Expect pictures in the near future.

So tonight, I played my first-ever game of CS with my 5-year-old son. I teach him the full rules (about rolling 4 dice, choosing a dice combo, and moving up the numbers) and let him roll first. And the first time he has 3 numbers rolled ... he stops.

Immediately. No push.

Well, he needs to learn to push more. So on my first roll, I get the 6-7-8 combo going. So I roll, and roll, and roll ...

... and eventually get 4-5-5-5. FAIL!

He gets the dice again and gets to 3 numbers ... and stops.

I get the dice and go up three numbers before stopping. He goes again.

He gets to 3 numbers and stops. He would do this every time he got the dice. (The one time he tried, late in the game, he fell immediately It would be his only fall.)

On many occasions, I get 'good' numbers and push it ... only to fall. Some times, I would stop and advance a bit.

He beats me to the 12, but I then get the 7 and am pushing up on the 6 and 8. I stop a few spaces from the top for each. Then he gets a string of 5s and 11s (with 7s, which now don't count). He ends up getting both on one turn to beat me, three to one.

For the rest of the night, I have to hear him say things like "Did you win?" (I didn't.) "So you're a loser?" (I am.) "So I won?" (He did.)

It's gonna be a long night. And at least I still own him at Caylus!

Don't be too hard on him, Mike. It just means that for the rest of the evening, he "Can't Stop"...teasing you.

Great session report!

Mike-
That's pretty amazing... my wife and I played Can't Stop with our seven-year-old for the first time the other day (he'd been watching me play on yucata) and he crushed us too! Went for all the middle numbers while we were messing around on the outskirts. Ridiculous.

As much as I am for rewarding game publishers with purchases I don't think I could replace the homemade board that my wife made for me and my kid beat me on.

Brief update:

We did play immediately after that game, and I did win.

We played again just now ... and he won again! He's now asking me (as I type this) why I can't beat him. I'm wondering this myself.
