I'm playing BG (Full Campaign) for my first time and I've a doubt about rule 1.10:
Steps. Receive a 1-step combat unit of the
indicated Action Rating. The player has
two options: 1) rebuild a destroyed unit, 2)
take an available breakdown regiment as a
reinforcement (German only) or increase
the strength of a reduced multi-step unit
(Soviet only) that is within two hexes of
an HQ. Note that a rebuilt multi-step unit
returns with a single step remaining.
on point 1) ... rebuild a destroyed unit ... it means that I can rebuild a unit, whatever type: infantry, tank, artillery with an AR between 1 to 4 (based on roll result)?
and
e.g., with a roll result of AR3, may I rebuild unit with AR of 1 or 2 as well as 3?

Hi Fil,
Point one: you can rebuilts only infantry step (as german 1step of multistep ID)
For all other there is the rebuilts table.
point 2: The rules originally call only for AR3 as your example..but if I remember well..now you can rebuilt 3 or less AR also...

Since the rule states "of the indicated Action Rating" I would assume that one could only rebuild units of that action rating and nothing else. I checked the BG errata at the Gamer's Archive and didn't see anything that said otherwise, but maybe there's a clarification out there somewhere...

Just to make sure it's all clear:
The "step" rebuilt can be any combat unit in dead pile: artillery, infantry, tank, etc. Only restriction is AR. It is intended, for example, for the Soviets to rebuild tank brigades with the Step results.
You could play a House Rule allowing a unit of the indicated AR or less to be rebuilt, but strictly speaking it has to be the exact AR.

That's the problem ... the word "infantry" is not present.
This leaves a doubt in rules, can be misinterpreted!
