In the official site I found the following home rules
arimaa.com/arimaa/learn/homeRules.pdf
that suggests the following "Simplified Arimaa" variants:

"To have the game finish faster, we play using just 4 rabbits and 2 cats per side. In the setup move the pieces must be placed on the first row; in any arrangement"
"Another favorite combination is 5 rabbits, 2 cats and 1 dog per side."

It can be interesting play these variants and try them against a software, for see how the computer program can beat a human with less pieces.

There are also variants about unequal armies (interesting for calculate the value of the pieces) and dicey moves.

Hi.
