Example 1 reads "He is able to move his marker to Yellow, Green, Red then Blue, but must stop on Blue, since he doesn't occupy a second Blue county." Based on the image of the map and Red's current positions he must stop on Yellow as he has no markers on any Green county.
Example 2 reads "She continues to Yellow, Red, Green then Green, but must stop there because she doesn't have a third Yellow." Again, based on the image of the map and Yellow's current positions she can only advance to Yellow as she has no second Red.

You are correct (sigh). What can I say, there were some oversights by the copy editor (game designers don't get final approval).
