I read the following on pg 4 of the rules under champion movment:

"By Default, a Champion may move up to two hexes and battle when on foot, and move up to four hexes and battle when mounted."

The I read on pg 5 the following:

"A Champion may not stop in a hex with an enemy unit, enemy Creature, another Champion (friendly or otherwise), or a troop that does not have a compatible movement status."

I'm assuming that the "compatible" word is just referring to a mounted Champion occupying a hex with a mounted unit and an on-foot Champion occupying a hex with a foot unit - correct? Otherwise a Champion could only ever combine with a green mounted or green foot unit as those are the only unit types that exactly match a Heroes movement capability.

This is the way I understand it too. Except that a mounted Champion may be joined to an foot-unit. Though mounted he is restricted to the foot-unit's movement capacity.

Really? I would have though that rule I quoted above would have prevented that. Unless the Champion disables his Riding skill and becomes an on-foot Champion, then I could see it.

Sure. It's actually in the rules though on p. 4 under "Hero Deployment"...

Quote:
A Hero, when deployed, is placed on a hex that is occupied by a friendly troop with compatible movement status (i.e., a foot unit if the Hero is on foot; a foot or mounted unit if the Hero is riding a mount).

So, a Hero can never move faster than the troop he leads (ergo no Hero-on-foot in a mounted unit), but can be slowed down to stay with a troop he leads. (I deduce that's the reasoning behind the rules.)

Ah, yup I missed that earlier but I can see now where that applies. Many thanks for pointing that other rule out.

Just too bad Vancouver's not a bit closer. We could get a game going.
