With the amazing success of D-Day Dice using the Kickstarter program, are you considering using Kickstarter to kickstart the production of Hamilcar: First Punic War?
Please keep us informed!
Thanks!

I am just speculating even though I am linked to Valley. I assume with the success of DDD, that they will most certainly entertain this route for pre-orders of other titles.
Hamilcar seems an appropriate one to place on Kickstarter, as do quite a few I have worked on but haven't seen announced yet....
My guess might be that they see DDD through to make sure the whole process is something that works for them. But they might jump earlier and get another title going.

Yes, we would absolutely consider this. However, we kinda have our work cut out for us in D-Day Dice currently.
We sent out emails requesting interest in seeing Hamilcar released but did not get as many shows of interest as we may have expected based on the success of Hannibal.
However, that was just to our customers in our database. Kickstarter is a worldly sight and with much more visitors might really show us how desirable Hamilcar really is.

That's great news. Hannibal: Rome vs. Carthage has such an enormous following, I'm willing to bet Hamilcar: First Punic War will be a success!

I remember you said you got 450 "pre-orders" after you sent out your email. 1860: Divided republic was funded with 249 followers (14.447$) which seems to have very roughly similar kind of components as Hamilcar.
My only problem, should you decide to do this, is that I would have to pay whatever necessary to fund the project...:-)
But I completely understand that you have your hands full with DDD for the time being.

Yes, bring us Hamilcar
.
It's perfectly understandable to devote your time to the big success that is D-Day Dice. Take your time.

Shipping fee to Europe?
OK, first, I have to admit to being so uneducated I was completely unaware of D-Day Dice, with or without Kickstarter, before stumbling on this thread last night. (Which in turn I got to only after I discovered, months after the announcement on BGG, that a Hamilcar expansion to Hannibal is being planned.) I am obviously horrible at keeping up with what's going on in the board game world.
I had a look at the D-Day Dice game, and the Kickstarter page for it, when it was actually still a few hours to go. But since it seems that participants outside the USA and Canada would have to pay an extra $50 flat shipping fee, the lowest levels didn't seem feasible to me. And being too ignorant to have heard about the game before, with no time to research it, I didn't dare commit that late on a higher level either (even though I suspect I would enjoy that game; I do like dice). Ah well. ________________________________________
Anyway, returning to the Hamilcar expansion, it seems to me that if a $50 shipping fee were charged for this too, when you live outside USA or Canada, it would make it practically impossible to participate. (I don't mean in any way to devalue this, but we are talking about a single game box here, right?)
I don't even know what the normal shipping fee might be for a box like this (or Hannibal) directly from Valley Games to Europe (Sweden). (I bought my copy of Hannibal like most other games via European retailers.) When I try clicking on "Shipping Policy" on Valley Game's shop page, I don't seem to get any info. Which makes me wonder how feasible it is to pre-order at all? Can anyone more knowledgeable please offer some input?
I would most definitely be interested in this expansion.

50$ for shipping is (unfortunate) not expensive. When I go to Valley games and calculate a price to ship a copy of Hannibal it is 70$. If I buy a copy from an US seller on ebay the shipping is roughly 35$. I don´t know how much Hamilcar weigh but I would guess somewhere in between.
Shipping internationally is very expensive.
Let´s say the price for a copy of Hamilcar is 40$ and 50$ to ship it to Europe. That 90$ in total. If you go a pretty cheap online-store in Sweden (I usually use www.worldofboardgames.com) they charge 500 SEK plus 100 SEK for postage for a copy of Hannibal:Rome vs Carthage. It ends up pretty much the same. Give or take 20$...

In my opinion, non-U.S. folks are best off freeriding. Hope the KS gets funded, buy it from distribution for much less than KS + shipping.

Hi Rik,
Just so you know, because there might be other people like me. I have the original copy of Hannibal. I hesitate to preorder because I expect that the game will not be compatible with my game. If it is, I will be buying it for sure.

By "original" do you mean the Avalon Hill version or the Valley Version?
If you'll read the details on Hamilcar, you'll find that it's a 2 sided map, with one side covering the 2nd Punic War.
I suspect you could still use your AH parts and cards and play a pretty satisfying game, even with the mismatched bits.
AH did a First Punic War expansion in the General magazine with leaders and rules but did not include any map changes, which limited the usefulness of the addition. I know a lot of folks (including me) who had it (1st Punic) but never played it. I'm looking forward to seeing Hamilcar and how it improves even the Valley version of Hannibal.

Yup Avalon Hill. And I'm hoping about being able to use my mismatched bits, but you can't fault me for wanting to wait to make sure that no hidden components or randomizable are mismatched. (For example, additional cards)
