Hey Guys,

I want to get hold of a copy of Civ. I want it to be adv. civ.

So do I buy a german Piatnik-Copy for 20$ and print the cards via Artscow (what else would I have to do, btw?)

Or is it better to also print and mount the map(s) myself?

Thanks for every advice!

Alex, in order to play Advanced Civilization, you need both the regular Civ and the Advanced Civ. The latter doesn't come with a board itself, but uses the regular one. I trust, you might know that already.

I just checked amazon.de and it offers used German Civilization games for a reasonable price. I like the German board better than the original one, since it gives names for the city sites, which the original board doesn't.

So, what you might want to do is buy the German regular game and make the Advanced Civilization stuff yourself, which boils down to a bunch of cards and the rulebook.

If you have further questions, you may geek-mail me in German, if you want.

Cheers, Olav

As you probably know, Adv civ is played with the original trade cards, plus additional cards. If you want to print the additionnal trade cards, you will have to print the original too, if you dont, players will be able to make the difference between the two decks. You will need also to print the advance cards, since each players need a full set contrary to the plain vanila civ.

yea, I today have ordered all trade and tech cards via Artscow, so that thing is pretty much done!

Do I need anything else but the base game now?

Is any Version the best one? or does any version work just fine?

Thanks for the fast responses!

It does not seem to have been mentioned, but you'll also need a copy of the advanced AST which is different. There is at least one image in the Advanced Civilization gallery.

I can't comment on different versions of the base game, although I would think any of them should do the job.

Be aware that the English (AH & Hartland version) of Civilization uses a slightly different board (althought the differences are minor - if I remember correctly the two versions differ only in two areas). The boards also have different sizes, so the Western Expansion (AH) and the Western Expansion (WdS) do only go with the respective Civilization games.

The trading cards of the complete AH version (including the AH trading card expansion and Western expansion) and the combined WdS game (Civilization and Western expansion) have different distributions of trading cards.

As a resumee . . . try to get a complete set of the AH version (original or homemade: Civilization (AH or Hartland), extra trading cards (AH if I got it right, you already have ordered them from ArtsCow) Western Expansion (AH), Advanced Civilization (AH) and maybe the Eastern Expansion (Alea, I have the files for homemade versions on my personal website))

The WdS versions of Civilization and Western Expansion are cheaper to get and easier to find and have extra trading cards included in the Western Expansion but they don't go well with Advanced Civilization.

Ciao

Martin
