Many thanks to

Congratulations to

for reaching enlightenment and discovering:
Spoiler (mouseover to reveal): A koan has a buddha nature IFF it contains at least two emoticons with a numerical value, and when those numerical emoticons are grouped together and divided into a front half and back half, the sum of one of the halves is 5 more than the sum of the other half.
To see a list of all the games, see the Emoticon Zendo Wiki. (Everyone is encouraged to keep the wiki page up to date, especially those who master or win a game.)
Consider the Spock rule.
Emoticon Zendo Rules: -All BGG users start with exactly one guessing token. -There is no "Mondo" -- there is only "Master" and guessing -There are no turns, but no one student may do "master" (asking about a koan) two consecutive times (i.e. he must wait for another student to do "master" in between), unless 24 hours have passed without another student doing a "master". A student may "guess" the rule twice consecutively only if there was a "master" from another student, and at least an hour has passed since the first guess. A student may do a "master" and then make a guess consecutively. -As a courtesy to other students in the event that your guess is correct, please enclose your guesses in [ o][ /o] tags (without the spaces). -The null koan is allowed in Emoticon Zendo. Use the word "null" to indicate a koan with no emoticons. -Your first guess is free. Additional guesses cost 1 GeekGold (except see below). The GG should be submitted as a tip to this thread. The student with the first correct guess (the winner) will win all the GG as a prize. -If you have already made at least one guess, but more than 48 hours has passed since your last guess, you may make another guess without paying the 1 GG fee. -Please thumb the main thread if you participate. -It is customary that the student who reaches enlightenment on this game, is the master for the next game. If unable or unwilling to perform that function, please signal the master of this game. -"Buddha" is not spelled "Buddah".
Emoticon Zendo Conventions: -Koans are built from a single line of emoticons. No letters/numbers/etc. -The 2nd emoticon from the left is in 'position #2', etc. -I will use and to answer each "master", so please don't use these emoticons in your Koan.
Here is an example of a Koan of length 4 which has a smiley face in position #3:

Re: Emoticon Zendo (Game 182)
I just noticed something:
copy-pasted things wrote:
Most people may not know this, but "Smiley" is a trademark for a specific yellow smiling face. Really. For real.I'm sure Kory Heath doesn't mind us playing his game for free on this forum, but we'd better get rid of that trademark-infringing "smiley" before they sue the pants off of BGG and it no longer exists.
Edit: never mind; smiley is a dictionary-certified adjective. It is perfectly legitimate in "smiley face". Editing a post before I actually post it – crazy, right?

Grant, when I click on your first link Firefox informs me that the site is known to spread Trojans. Better remove that link.
