Was having a conversation with my son and during the "what if" stage, we talked about playing a game of HRC but instead of the battle cards, we wondered how it might work out if we used C&C Ancients instead to recreate a battle so we might do that the next time we play.
Has anyone else done this just for the heck of it?

this would make for a very long game. if you're OK with that then it sounds like fun.

Well, my son's up for it. I just have to make sure I get a FULL night's sleep before, heh.

Hmm, I'm not sure that would work. As I recall, C and C can easily have a battle where both sides have units remaining. How do you plan to make it work with units at decreased strength? If you can get it to work, it could be a fun variant for you guys. I mean, the integrity of the game will be killed, but that doesn't seem to be the focus here, so if you guys figured out a proper system, it could work.

Set the victory to 4, 5, or 6 depending on... battle size? Then have pre-chosen armies depending on army size: more CUs = more units. Elephant CUs add elephants. Command cards = 2 or 3 + general's battle rating. Battle leader abilities would have to be completely re-worked to keep them balanced with the non-combat abilities. Battle cards (like the cavalry one, or spy in the camp) would have to be changed (maybe to just a generic "counter attack"). We would lose CUs due to attrition equal to the number of banners the opponent gained. Your battle losses would be the difference between our banner losses. I don't know how we would account for "total loss" but that's pretty rare and can still occur with a high attrition, completely dominating attack. Anyways it's not that important. I have no idea how withdraw would work, or interception (starting your opponent with fewer cards like the Trasimenus scenario or further back on their line and you further up?).
This would be the greatest idea ever, but I would not want to work out the details!

Well, the idea is still interesting. Plus, it was just one of those "thinking out loud" moments, so neither one of us has any idea how we could get it to work yet either.

This sounds like a great way to spend time with your son. Working out the rules will likely be as much fun as actually playing the game!

I had the exact same idea a few years ago but never did it... should be a blast, especially with your son!

I've always wanted to do this. An amazing idea. Definitely do it.

Well we've got some Combat Commander to get through and then I think we can attempt this project.
