Hi!
I ordered Dominion last week at my game shop, but they ended up receiving Intrigue instead.

I have not opened it yet, so i'd like first to know if this box makes for a complete experience by itself and if it contains the complete rules for the game, or if just experienced players can have fun from this box alone and i should take it back as soon as possible.

Thanks for your advice to a novice :)

Intrigue is a standalone game and can be played with or without the base game. It can also be played with any of the exapnsions. It has more "choice" cards than the base game - cards that let you choose from 2 or more options. It also has hybrid victory cards that give you points plus some other benefit. The base game may be a little easier to learn, but both are very accessible to new players.

Definately stick with it since you have it. I would have chosen the basic Dominion game first for newbies but Intrigue has some great cards in it and everything they'll need. If they enjoy it and end up getting the original game they might (emphasis on might) be a little ho-hum witht he cards since they are even more "basic".

It is slightly more challenging as a starter but has everything you need. If I were you i would keep it and purchase the original ASAP just for the added fun!

If you can deal with D&D, you can definitely deal with intrigue. Given that I consider Intrigue to be much better than the base set, I'd call this a fortuitous accident.

Fortuitous accident though it was, I'm with the others who recommend both Intrigue and the base set. But I'm partial. I own all seven sets, and pre-ordered Hinterlands almost two months in-advance.

I started with Intrigue and got the Big Box (Dominion; Prosperity; Alchemy) later. After playing Intrigue, the original Dominion is kind of boring on it's own. I think Intrigue is perfectly fine for a beginner.
