So with the plethora of dungeon crawl experience games out there, what is your #1? Claustrophobia, D&D:Legend of Drizzt, or Tomb perhaps? What about Dungeon Run or Dungeoneer? What about Dungeonquest? What ever you believe to be the best, post it here and give your reason!

Descent: Journeys in the Dark is pretty good, although it takes a lot longer to play than stated. One player needs to take the role of the GM.

These free print and play games are pretty good:
Delve: The Dice Game
Delve the Card Game

These aren't exactly dungeon crawlers, but they have the same feel in a science-fiction setting. No GM is needed.
Space Infantry -- solitaire.
Gears of War: The Board Game -- co-op or solitaire.
and in a WWII setting:
Ambush! solitaire wargame system
and in a horror setting, this free print and play game:
Dice of the Living Dead

You're welcome. DungeonQuest (third edition) can be pretty fun, too, but only if you go into the game realizing that everyone is likely to die horribly!

Claustrophobia is number 1 on my list of DC mechanics.
Decent components, easy rules, climate!

I am a really dungeon crawler fun.So read carefully.

Descent - the BEST RPG-board game BUT it needs more time to play and some times it gives the feeling that it has to be finished sooner. You can wait for the second-new edition at early 2012.They say that plays faster.

Dungeoneer - I really enjoy this game but is not a heavy dungeon crawling game that gives the feeling that you done something "great" when you finish a game. Of course it is a perfect "add" for your collection.

D&D series : wrath os ashardalon, drizzt....is a simple dungeon crawler without the flavour that maybe you want from a dungeon crawler. Not so many colours, not so narating...

I don't have play Dungeon Run but it seems a great game...

Another one - Mage Knight Dungeons. You can buy a starter set and many boosters or singles at discount prices. A great additions are 3D sets of floors with amazing 3D traps. 3D walls are OOP, but not necessary to enjoy the 3D game itself.
Worth seeing.

Descent is the king if you want something meaty.

Claustrophobia is fantastic if you want something lighter but still a full meal (2 player only)

The D&D game are pretty crap all told. Winning is about drawing the right cards.

Tomb is an utter abortion.

Dungeonquest is good fun but is very light. More of a social game.

Here is the Geek-list for the BGG definitive Dungeon Crawl

Linky---->The Definitive Dungeon crawl Geek-list

A note on Descent, IT is the king as mentioned above but it is being supplanted by Descent 2nd Ed in March 2012. IMHO, dont sink cash into any current versions of Descent until 2nd ED. they are not compatible systems, FFG is rewriting the rules and adding some of the expansions that were out for Descent into the Descent core rules, eg Legends expansion is now part of the base game in 2nd.

ps. Remember thumbs are free!! whistle

+1 for Dungeoneer: Tomb of the Lich Lord and the other decks of the series.
Pros: Various quests to undertake, each player gets to be the dungeon lord in turn, lots of items and boons to utilize, portable and a low price.
Cons: Can drag a bit with a large number of players, luck can make-or-break (such as drawing a room you need to complete a quest).

I am glad someone beat me to it!
A decent set of Mage Knight Dungeons figures is, by far, the best dungeon crawl experience for me. You've got class specializations, leveling up, treasure, and no need for a GM--all this before adding in all the awesome other stuff (traps, artifacts, solo play, 3D walls, etc. etc. etc.)

Failing that, Claustrophobia is amazing, and I personally enjoy the recent D&D co-ops (like Dungeons & Dragons: Wrath of Ashardalon Board Game). Both are tight, streamlined games that are a lot of fun.

I'm fond of Castle Ravenloft and think the others in this series would be interesting, they arent easy but that is what makes them fun to play...

Don't forget Heroscape, Battle For the Underdark.

Ok, it is not the best, but it is a dungeon crawl, of sorts.

And now is the time to buy it- wait too long and you will be paying 100 bucks for a watered down version of REAL Heroscape.

Super Dungeon Explore--it was a pain to put the pieces together, but I thought it was a solid dungeon crawl.

I sooo wanted to love Wrath of Ashardalon, but after many plays, I find it flat and repetative.

My current crawler is Dungeon Run and I am loving it. I love the theme, the look and the mechanics.

Claustrophobiais my favorite.

It's beautiful and has that 'designed with love' quality.
It's easy to learn.
It plays quickly and very smoothly, something absent in many crawlers.
It has a constant-growing set of scenarios.
It's a great mix of both thematic fun and tension!
It tells a great story.

Makes me feel old when I see a dungeon crawl suggestion request thread, and the great Warhammer Quest is not even mentioned. (or Advanced HeroQuest)

It would be nice if someone else would get the rights to it and reprint it so we could recommend it again!

+1 for Claustrophobia. packs a lot of game in a short and simple ruleset and relatively quick playtime.

You can have a good time with Dungeonquest, Dungeon Run, Heroquest.

I can't stand Warhammer Quest. The best move was always too obvious and easily broke down as a cooperative game. Major update necessary if ever gets reprinted.

I never had good plays with the new D&D games.

Unfortunately, never played Descent.

My fave is Descent: Journeys in the Dark. The one drawback, however, is that you need 3-6 hours to play it, so our group doesn't get to play as much as we'd like. Still my favorite dungeon crawl at this time.
