Looking good. Are you going to have "fuzzy" placement?

Stones do not appear perfectly on the intersections but slightly overlap, simulating the appearance of a "real" board.

Check this link. For me "Natural" stones placement looking awkward. I prefere Natural stone placement.

I'm a new iPad owner and someone very new to Go (much less the online scene).
The feature list looks great (assuming you will have pass-and-play as well as online play), but I don't know what this means:
Quote: Free to Play in a similar style as Words with Friends. This way nobody will ever have to search for a Go opponent again.
I popped over to the Words with Friends page on the App store, and while it's free, it says the top in-app purchases are packs of "tokens". Does this mean it's free to install, but then you have to pay-per-play by buying tokens? If so, that's a deal breaker for me. (if not, I'm curious as to what the heck they're for)
I'd rather shell out 5-10 bucks and get something good that lets me play as much as I want.
Edit - for the record, if you include the "natural placement", I'd prefer an option to turn it off. I'm a bit OCD and I like the uniform placement, even if it feels sterile and artificial.

Ah, I see what natural placement is. Yea, that would be a pretty easy option to put in the app actually.
As far as the Words with Friends reference, I have no idea what the tokens are for... lol! I think you might be referring to Scramble With Friends... the tokens in that game let you get powerups or something...
However, what we meant by the reference was that we were thinking of offering our game for free for everybody to play and have advertisements show up in the free version and have something like a $1.99 in-app purchase to get rid of the advertisements and possibly unlock a few cool additional features like different boards, the ability to export games, etc.
That way there would hopefully always be a large number of people to play Go with, and those who were serious about the cool features could upgrade to the full version.

It's definitely Words with Friends - I did some googling, and apparently you use them to purchase features such as no ads, the word-o-meter and the tile pile add-ons.
But basically the model works like Disc Drivin'. It's the full version, but there's ads that pop up. If you buy the premium version, the ads go away (but it's more or less full featured in its free state). I can live with that. There's incentive to drop the extra couple bucks to lose the ads, but people will play it for free with the ads, meaning a wider audience. Combined with async multiplayer, I might actually get my friends hooked on it.
Looks great! Any idea on a ballpark release date?

What link?
I'm too not a "fan", but if you are looking for realistic look and feel then I think its a good option to have.

Ah I see! That's news to me. My wife plays WWF all the time but I have an allergy to word games...
Yes, a more accurate comparison would be to the Disc Drivin' model. Thanks for mentioning that. And I hope you are right! It is our goal that by making it free we can help get lots of new players hooked on Go!
As far as a release date goes... we're hoping to be able to release the game in March alongside the new iPad 3 (or shortly after), but that date is very tentative and will probably change. Either way though, it's not far off!

Great idea! I'm keen on playing some asynch Go via Game Center. I'd like the options to use Japanese or Chinese style handicaps and scoring, and also I'd like to see a kyu / dan ranking system as well as ELO. A game timer (similar to the one in the Ascension app) supporting Canadian time and byo-yomi would be good too.
For me the most important feature I need is some kind of magnifier or crosshairs when playing stones, as per the Smart Go and Aya Go apps or Tigris & Euphrates. Please check out those apps and see how they do piece placement. Any other method of placement (I've tried apps with many other approaches) is basically unworkable IMO.
Here are some screenshots...

Actually yes! Things got a bit sticky for a while when life got in the way of game development, but that's changed now!
Our lead developer is going to be working in this all of May and we hope to have a 1.0 App Store ready version available in the first half of June!

haha. =)
How bad does the programmer have to be to allow this to happen?
