The rules give use of 55 tokens in a 7P game and 47 tokens in a 8P game. The map, IIRC, is the same (all panels including WEX) for either 7 or 8P.
Does this have a material affect on the game? 8P will be more crowded and maybe 47 is sufficient.
Thoughts out there?

Yep; it's a balancing effect. 55 tokens would encourage too much conflict. Civilization isn't Risk... managing border hostilities without resorting to conflict is one of the primary gameplay aspects of Civ.

Was kinda on that page but 6P was at 55 as well - with reduced # of areas - but hadn't analyzed it.

I go back to 55 if I play with the WEX as the added space allows for it.

I like to play with 55 when play 8p.
The efect is more conflicts between players, becouse there are no space for all tokens...
