As the holidays wrap up, and new year's eve is on our doorstep, I just wanted to say this one little thing, something I say every year and stand by wholeheartedly:
I have never experienced an online community, a forum, or a resource so rich, WELCOMING, and awesome as BGG.
Let me expand... I frequent a few forums here and there. Some are for miniature gaming, others are just random forums I look to for information, and some are casual forums I see in passing, or comments left on youtube or other mass commenting arenas.
ALL of those forums seem to be full of people who are rude, illiterate, "know it alls" and just plain a-holes.
Sure, BGG has a few nuts sprinkled on top...and sure, we might even have a few rude operators, but I truly believe they are in the VAST minority.
It is always a pleasure and a privilege coming on and swimming around this site. From comments made to/left by other users, to the great information at our fingertips, to the sheer natural HIGH that I get reading about and adding games to my want list.
So thank you, BGG, and thank you BGG users. Don't change. Stay cool. Stay geeky. Never let us become "just another forum."
Times are tough economically, and this year I wasn't able to donate money to BGG...but I really want to. I plan on doing so this coming year, and I ask that each of you consider doing so as well.
Now, I've got to go and pick out a game for a gift...can't wait to get lost in the sea of games for the next hour!
Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!
I've got, or have had, a presence to some extent on many many communities on the net, and the vast vast majority of them (sorry, I just watched 4 Police Academy movies in 5 days) are greatly populated by elitists, cliques, intolerant fools, argumentative jackhammers, or any/many of the other "why the internet sucks" stereotypes.
I have found precisely 2 communities that are populated primarily with decent people who treat each other decently, and BGG is at the top of that short list. And when it comes to helping out its members, whether it be financially or emotionally, or even just with game advice, the BGG community stands alone.
I'm proud, happy, and honored to be a part of that community to any extent.
Now, of course, we can start the countdown to the first smartaleck post that is the exception to the rule :)

Where is that smart guy named "Aleck" when you need him.
Yeah, I definitely have to agree with the sentiments in this post. Good show.
ASL ... yes, this is my Desert Island Game. If I have to give up all my 3000+ games and only allowed to keep one, this would be it. This bloody game stood the test of time. Around for more than 25 years - simply the best.

Yes. I feel good everytime I visit this site. Can't say that for a lot of others.
Must be a gamer's thing
I need to change this now that it's not football season.

Why should I fret in microcosmic bonds / That chafe the spirit, and the mind repress / When through the clouds gleam beckoning beyonds / Whose shining vistas mock man's littleness?
Well spoken, my thriend!
From the very beginning I had a feeling that this site, the forums, and its users, were... different. Like you put it, not "just another forum". They were friendly. Generous. Helpful. Welcoming. And cool.
I felt at home.

Stepping out on the road is a dangerous business. You have to keep your feet under you, or before you know it you'll be swept off to who knows where!
Well said my friend.
