Who knows if anything will happen with this, but I can confirm that laminating works extremely well to fix all of the problems that I had with the quality of the location tiles. You just need patience and a good cutting guide when trimming the laminated tiles down to size.

Not everyone is like you, patience, calm, nerves of steel, lots of time consuming. You may be gifted with cutting, others have other talents

I don't have time to do that stuff and i don't that talent, so i would welcome this new custom sleeves for this game map tiles.

For hexagons tiles, i like the eclipse tiles that has a great quality than this cheap Wizkids. That's why i would like to buy sleeve if this is approved.

I would love them as well. Would be even nicer with a field of stars on the back. But I know that would increase cost.

+1

according to wiz-kids, the game price was as low as they could make it. so what i am still trying to figure out, is how they couldn't make better components if they charged $100 MSRP for the game. there are plenty of other games available that have as many components and/or miniatures + licensing fees as this one does, but much much better quality at a lower price.

That's purely speculative - I would strongly disagree with it. I don't think there are many IPs out there that even approach the cost of the Trek license.

but there are other star trek games out there at a fraction of the price, Star Trek: Expeditions (even made by wiz-kids) and star trek catan to name two.

Expeditions has a small fraction of the pieces this game does. Expeditions and Catan both also use fewer pictures that they probably have to pay additional licensing fees for (I guarantee you that several of the actors in the various series get royalties themselves whenever their images are used).

Additionally, Expeditions is sold in Barnes and Noble, and Catan is a name that has entered the public lexicon. The manufacturers know they'll sell many more copies of those than Fleet Captain, so they can afford to have smaller margins on each product.

No. The fact is no one knows what the deal was, or what the liscensing fees were. No one knows what the factor was in the corner cutting. All we know is what WizKids has stated. That they trimmed things down to what the game is now to keep prices to what they were.

That was exactly my original point - anything else I've said is just personal speculation.

Well our main go-to factory has said the 6-sided sleeve is not possible with their existing equipment but we do have some other leads that look promising. We have our boots on the ground looking for a way to get this into reality, just waiting to hear back from them now. I'll keep you posted for sure!

Star Trek: Expeditions - one (recent) movie license. Two (different) miniatures.

Star Trek: Fleet Captains - 5 TV series licenses, at least a couple movie licenses (I haven't counted), 11x as many miniature ships, LOADS more other components, custom (complex) box inserts, etc.

Star Trek: Catan - one TV series license. Several copies of two different miniatures. (Unknown MSRP)

You can't possibly argue that the production and licensing costs of these two products are similar.

Sure, Space Hulk (3rd edition) or Dreadfleet might have similar or higher component costs (but no licensing required). They're also $100+ games.

Of course, Wizkids looks like they're spreading out the licensing costs and initial component costs (e.g. molds) by releasing similar products that use them (Star Trek HeroClix: Tactics) to maximize their return on investment. Hopefully that will bring down the retail price of future expansions ... but I doubt it.

We aren't going to be getting these made I'm sorry to say. We tried but no one seems to have an affordable option on the manufacturing of them. Sorry everyone!

Good luck! I have a Xyron Creative Station laminator and was wondering if anyone has had success laminating these tiles with one, or if they ended up all curled or split-edged and how to get them cut identically.
