I'm enjoying Catacombs but have two gripes: the boards are too small and, as many have noted, the pieces are constantly flying off the table. I'm guessing the boards are the size they are to keep the cost down, but I'd be willing to buy larger boards if they were offered as a separate expansion. Any others willing to do the same?

Poll
Would you pay for a separate expansion that included larger boards?
Yes
No

Sure, but I'd be at least as likely to pay for an expansion set that had new and different regular-sized boards.

That, too. Someone else had the idea of putting two baords together to make a larger area, but you'd need extra pillars to make it work right.

If the boards are expanded but the pieces are not, then it becomes more difficult to hit other pieces, since the distances between them are greater. Might that not upset game balance?

Draw two cards, one for each board. Now you have more monsters to hit.

As a total fanboy of this game, I'd buy anything put out by SoT that is Catacombs related. I'm actually fine with the board size and after I made a box to go around the boards, my pieces rarely fly off the table anymore. That being said, varied board and board sizes would be a lot of fun, even more fun if they were modular as a means of exploring larger areas.

Thanks for the comments about this issue. Currently there is the base Catacombs game, Cavern of Soloth for new heroes and related content and Horde of Vermin for a new monster family. We would like to design a new board focused expansion next, so any feedback on this thread is appreciated.

One thing that could be really cool would be boards with square or triangular obstacles in them, or a mix or shapes. Another would be rotatable obstacles (i.e. a round disk the same thickness as the board with another shape glued to it, like a semicircle or rectangle).

^^^These are excellent ideas!

Also I think it would be cool if you had boards that were shaped in an "L" shape boards or maybe attachments to already existing boards to give the room a different shape. These could include more obstacle options also.

Some people have suggested walls to create bank shots in other forums which might be clever. For some rooms it might be interesting to see something like this used for some rooms. Or at least partial walls where you could make bank shots in certain parts of the room.

I like the L(or U)-shaped board idea and the differently shaped obstacles very much. They would represent dungeon furniture and corridors where you don't know what's around the corner. Another idea that could be toyed with is the starting areas. For example we could have a room where characters come through a set of stairs in the middle of the board and are circled by enemies and such.
