Subject: secret weapon and amphibious attacks - biased capitals? rss

The secret weapon cannot be used to conquer a capital, but it can be used as a great defense against an attack on your own capital - but since the ability can only be used whenever the units have somewhere to retreat, and since you cannot make an amphibious retreat, doesnt this make the two inland capitals much stronger than the others?
My friends objected alot in the last game, when I launched an amphibious attack on a capital, which they thought were protected by the secret weapon, and I have to admit, it didnt feel "right" to take it that way...

Yup I think you may have abused the letter of the english rules to go against the spirit of the game. Note that the original Italian rules allow different forms of overseas retreat provided water transport is available. Have a look at the relevant threads .

On a different note, The starting capitals are not equal and require different approches to the game.

We just played the English version of this and looked in detail in the rules about using the Secret Weapon special ability to make someone flee their capital. We didn't see that it was NOT allowed anywhere. I agree that it should NOT be allowed. Where in the English rules does it say this can not be used against a capital?

it states so in the official FAQ:
http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/ffg_content/Dust/Dust%20FA...

but my question is not regarding the secret weapon as an offensive attack, but as a defensive conflict avoider - perhaps I need to dig into the italian rules to learn on amphibious retreats.
