Hi,
Just picked up Bohnanza from my lgs, what the best way to play it with 2 players ? Standard, the bean duel or is there any other varients for 2 player.
Thanks.

Not to be snarky but don't.
Play a better 2 player game.
The 2 player version is dumb.
Love the game with 3 or more. Preferably 4/5

I disagree very strongly with the previous poster. I have played a lot of 2 player games and the only ones that see a lot of play in our house are:
Bohnanza Dominion At the Gates of Loyang Dragonheart EuroRails
I like the bean duel. The rules are strange and hard to get the flow of the first time you play, but definitely worth playing!

The Bean Duel is a fun variant and certainly is not dumb. The final scores are almost always close and the game moves rapidly since you only go through the deck once. Sure, it's different than the regular game for 3-7 players, but we enjoy BOTH games.
You may want to check the Files for this game and look for my player aid for 2 people.

The dynamic with multiplayer Bohnanza can't be matched in 2-player variant. 2-player will do in a pinch until you can get more players around the table. However, if I'm going to go for two player games, gonna have to say old school Lost Cities and Hera & Zeus are both more enjoyable.

The 2 player Bohnanza bean duel thingy is just fine for something light and fun. It really isn't the same game at all, but it's good in it's own right. If you want something heavier, check out At the Gates of Loyang if you want something economic or Haggis if you want something more card-gamey. Haggis isn't really related at all, but I just thought I plug it because it's awesome vOv

Yep that was 12 Power Grid maps back to back over two days. Worth doing, but possibly not in such a concentrated burst.
Ooh yes, now a little to the left - my nose is itchy. No, no the other left! Now what colour is 12 supporter badge going to be I wonder?

Two player Bohnanza (as described in the English rules) is fine. It is worth noting that it very different to the three or more player rules though.

I've read the rules a few times now including the two player varient but I just don't get how to play 'The bean duel for 2'
doesn't help that I've not played to standard version with anyone.

Try Bohn Camillo! A very interesting varient for two players based on the origin Bohnanza rules. Unfortunately the game is published in Germany only. But a very nice guy translated the rules to english and has posted them on Boardgamegeek! Convince yourself!
