G'day Jaime,

I try to remember to ask each Geek of the Week these gaming related questions, so to start with here's the ever so slightly modified GeekSpeak Hook questions for you (others to follow momentarily):
Favourite game(s) for d10-1 player (optional, many non-wargamers wouldn't have an answer for this)
Favourite game(s) for d10-2 players
Favourite game(s) for d10-3 players
Favourite game(s) for d10-4 players
Favourite game(s) for d10-5 players
Favourite game(s) for d10-6 players
Favourite game(s) for d10-7 or more players (and you may choose a Party Game here although I wouldn't meeple )

Also Word Association Football , I will list a word and you list a game or games that you associate with it. If you like you can expand and tell us if you like it/them or hate it/them and possibly why.

Space ships
Witches
Trains
Transport (may include trains)
Workers (paid or otherwise)
Trading
Building
Pink
Theme
Ships
Money
Purple
Government
Vampires
Infrastructure
Dice
Dinosaurs
Gemstones
Dragons
Beer
Wands

Is there any particular game that you have played recently, new or old, that you would like to recommend to readers of this thread? And optionally, why?

Last but not least, what are the five games that you have played most recently?

OK a few non-standard questions:

When is your next sekrit trip to Melbourne again?
Will you be allowed out?
Doctor Who history have you seen all the Doctors? (you are allowed to ignore the 8th, Daughter the Elder does)
If we ever meet in person what are we going to play?

Congratulations. I'm pretty sure you won GotW because you once gave me a fat tip. For something I wrote in a GeekList that the poster has since deleted, so I can't even replicate it or thank you or brag about it to others. Let this be a lesson to us all.

I'm not sure what the crab jokes are for, but have you ever eaten bugs? Not insects, but those weird things that are sort of like lobsters I guess, but look like aliens. We have no equivalent in the US. I've always been fascinated by them.

Happy 2012.

Jaime, congrats to you down under! What an honor to be the first GotW in 2012. My question for you is,

1vp What is it about Nightfall that you like so much? What makes it awesome compared to other deck-building games?

Thanks, and have a great year.

CONGRATULATIONS JEMAI

Here have a pot:

Now some questions:

What board game you own has the best looking components and board?

What is the worse board game you enjoy playing?

Have you ever played a session of board games, RPGs and video games? Would you? If so what games would you play?

You think I can ask similar question like those I did in your Video Game Geek thread?

If so what do you want? History, politics, games, hobbies, rugby, sex, all the above?

Star Trek or Star Trek? (I already know the answer, but you know I have to ask)

I will ask more questions later...

Carbby-boy? Is that some kinda fat joke? angry

Nice to see you here, LD!

lorddillon wrote:
d10-1 If you could turn one boardgame into a 'sport' complete with professional teams and competitions, which would it be?

Bloodbowl!

Wait, sorry, I've just been informed that you meant turning the play of the boardgame ino a sport... It's an interesting idea. Televised Arkham Horror could be awesome!

lorddillon wrote:
d10-2 If you could turn one RPG into a 'sport' complete with professional teams and competitions, which would it be?

Fiasco - how cool would that be?

lorddillon wrote:
d10-3 Who is your favorite inventor?

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. He invented Sherlock Holmes.

lorddillon wrote:
d10-4 Horse, Elephant, or Llama? Why?

Elephants. I see the other two regularly, thanks to the Agriculture unit at the school where I work.

lorddillon wrote:
d10-5 Coffee, Cocoa, or Tea? Why?

Hot Chocolate (cocoa) all the way, baby! It's both hot and chocolatey!

lorddillon wrote:
d10-6 What is your favorite childhood memory?

I dunno. I have a bunch of bad ones, but I'm pretty sure all the time I'm not remembering was heaps of fun. I had a great christmas when I was four, which I managed to somewhat recreate with my son this Christmas, who was just so insanely excited at some of his gifts that his mother and I were smiling for days.

lorddillon wrote:
d10-7 How much shame are you going to feel when you and the dwarf are eaten by a grue before you even get to the Mountains of Madness?

Pffft. Whatever. Any Grue that tries to eat me is gonna choke and Barad will pull the win out while it does so.

lorddillon wrote:

OK, I suppose it probably is, on the balance. Happy Pick-On-The-Crab week to you, Aenea!

I've got a cup of peppermint tea, I'm back from a great day of gaming (a Star Trek Customizable Card Game (Second Edition) Tournament where I came fourth followed by a few games of Blood Bowl: Team Manager – The Card Game and The Resistance) and I'm settling in to the early hours of the morning to answer a bunch of GotW quesitons - how far wrong could this week go?

Some questions:

I shall provide the answers for you:

1nf1n1ty wrote:
d10-1 What are your favorite video, RPG and Board games?

Video: Civilization IV
RPG: Legend of the Five Rings (4th Edition)
Board: History of the World

But ask me tomorrow and they may all have changed.

1nf1n1ty wrote:
d10-2 Have you ever created an RPG? Can you tell us about it?

Troy is subtly referencing Shakespearead here, the game I wrote for the first 24 hour RPG contest here on the Geek. In the game, you play ideas in Shakespeare's head which eventually tumble out into a plot.

He may also be talking about Elementality, in which you play elementals aligned not to the four ancient elements but the 150 odd modern ones, but that didn't do as well for me.

1nf1n1ty wrote:
d10-3 What is your favorite part about the geek?

The cool community. The cool people. Picking the next GotW is incredibly hard because even once I've ruled out the people I know in real life and the people in Australia (which eliminates a tremendous number of good options), there's still dozens of worthy people around. Because this place is just that damn great.

1nf1n1ty wrote:
d10-4 What is your favorite contribution that you did? That someone else did?

That I did: Probably this geeklist (although this one is also kinda funky, as is this one). Honestly? There's a lot of stuff I'm proud of here on the Geek. More than I could really tell you, more than is listed on my profile. I love this place and it inspires me to create stuff, which is possibly the best thing that can ever come out of the internet.

That someone else did: I dunno, what's Hivegod done lately? He's like Spider Jerusalem, only more of a boardgamer and less of a terrorist.

Ooh! Cool, thanks Oliver! By the way, has anyone mentioned that you are one incredibly slick-looking avatar? Love your work!

lydon wrote:
1 Old or New series?

Old, but only because Steven Moffat is ruining things. If you'd asked me at the end of Season 4, I probably would have said new.

lydon wrote:
2 Who is your favourite Doctor?

Jon Pertwee or Christopher Eccleston. It's a tough call.

lydon wrote:
3 Which enemy of the Doctor to you like most?

I've always been a Master fan. Especially the Delgado Master, but Ainley and Simm were both good too.

lydon wrote:
4 And which one do you rather not like to see again?

I don't think there's one I wouldn't like to see again. Even Colin Baker had some great moments. There are certainly some episodes of Tom Baker's I could live without ever seeing again...

lydon wrote:
5 Do you have a favourite episode? Which one?

The Green Death. Classy monsters, sad but humanising ending for the Doctor, Bessie at her finest.

lydon wrote:
6 Which story was the most silly one in your eyes?

Silly is a quality I tend to admire, especially in the original series. The most 'oh god, why am I watching this?' episode is probably Let's Kill Hitler, though the Weeping angels two-parter follows close behind.

What about you? Who's your favourite doctor and episode?

The tree question is an old joke about questions that should not be asked in an interview.

Yes, Clickers is a series of horror novels by J. F. Gonzalez and Brian Keene about giant crabs and other things attacking a small sea-side town in the USA. The suceeding novels continue the story line. It is actually a fun series to read.

SamNzed wrote:
trash have you found your grail; board game, RPG or video g?

Yep. three times now for board games. first, it was Dune. I got a copy, but no-one has been willing to play it with me yet soblue.

then it was Merchant of Venus, which I got and have played a few times now. It totally lives up to the hype.

finally, I saw Waldschattenspiel, which turned out to be easy to get, fun and made my son crazy happy.

This is all on the assumption that by 'Grail', you mean 'hard to find and get a copy of'. If you mean 'Ultimate oh my god wow why would I ever play another game', then no, I don't believe in such a creature - though I happily will rate things a 10.

SamNzed wrote:

Did I cover this?

SamNzed wrote:

The game of life? Wow, awesome! So glad you didn't say Monopoly!!

Let's go with Sherlock Holmes, Doctor Who, Edgar Allan Poe and Jessica Rabbit.

SamNzed wrote:

Personally, sure! In practice, probably not. the main body of users are United Statesians, even if they are always late to everything

SamNzed wrote:

To paraphrase one of my favourite movies (and much Geekgold and mad props to the first person to correctly identify it):

Geekdo is NOT dead! Geekdo is LIFE!

SamNzed wrote:

b) live in the moment and concentrate
c) have a good time
d) something else?

Really, profound? I think it's just Knizia spouting more drivel. give him some glue and a genre and he could retheme that quote a dozen different ways.

I hope he means that the aim of a game is to have fun, whether or not you win, because that is true.

SamNzed wrote:

I make my home in the Tavern. There may be nicer places, but I haven't found them.

SamNzed wrote:

I do enjoy a good Junta! But the silliest game is definitely the Tribbles Customizable Card Game, in which players try to breed as many Tribbles as possible and score a point for each one. The average score in a game is around 200,000 points.

SamNzed wrote:

Lord Dillon and MasterGeek trying to stop Barad and I from cracking the Mountains of Madness like an egg!

Hmmm, my sources tell me that hasn't happened yet, but I assure you that it will be worth watching.

SamNzed wrote:
trash What is the most profound thing you've seen in Geekdo?

The pain of parents who lose their loved ones. The experiences that some people have gone through here make me cherish every moment with my children and my heart goes out to those who can't cuddle their little ones to sleep anymore.

SamNzed wrote:

Dixit. though in saying that, I acknowledge that it really isn't a game for everyone.

SamNzed wrote:

Fiasco, though even more than board games, RPGs are matters of personal taste and I think if you want to get into the hobby, you need to find your own way to some extent.

SamNzed wrote:
trash what VideoG would you recommend everyone own or play?

Civilization IV. That thing could replace a whole lot of tedious Geography courses in schools the world over.

SamNzed wrote:
trash As a fellow tea drinker - can you recommend any tea? Also if you drink black tea with milk - is it milk first or second?

I love Rose and French Vanilla and I've recently discovered a lovely green blend of Mint and Vanilla. I tend to drink a lot of Green or herbal teas and I also tend to drink my black tea without milk, but when I do have it - prepare for some heresy - it doesn't really matter when the milk goes in, so long as you stir once all the ingredients are in the cup.

There I go, upsetting both sides again! I'd make a terrible diplomat...
