I have played two "learning games" of Scenario 0 and so far I really have enjoyed this game. I had two questions that brought me to this forum.

The first one was about how many movement points were expended moving along a road into the last hex moved into which also has other terrain which costs more to move into. We played it as it is in ASL, but I read here on the forum that that is not the case (ie. it only costs the road rate).

The other question is: what is a wall hexside that extends from the firing (or targeted) hex? Is it cover or hindrance? In other words, what are the hindrance and cover for units firing at each other in hexes E8 and C5 on Board 7?

Correct.

The units in C5 get wall cover because the fire from E8 crosses the C5/C6 wall hexside as it enters the hex (at the C5/C6/D5 vertice) *and* the shot is hindered because it hits both the C6/D5 and D5/D6 walls along the way.

Firing the other way, the shot is hindered as above *and* the defenders get the cover of the wall along their hexside.

Thanks for the reply. I have been a fan of WW2 tactical games since Panzer Blitz and I am really liking the feel of this game. My opponent owns the game, but it has gone on my wishlist after one play of the intro scenario.

I have tried to interpret the rules without reading stuff into them that isn't there. My opponent didn't think that it made sense to be able to get the cover of the buildings without paying the movement cost. I said we would go ahead and play it that way but I would check with the forum.

As for the terrain question, we went with a strict "by-the-rules" interpretation and played it the way you replied.

Thanks again.

You might suggest to your opponent that being behind a building is just as good, or better, than being inside one.

Enjoy the game!

I blame ASL.

An official ruling by the designer is all the argument I'll need, but I'll mention that. Different designers, different philosophies on how to interpret real world events into game mechanics.
