England: fleet in English channel move to Brest (unoccupied)
France: fleet in Irish sea move to English channel

Does the French fleet occupy the channel?

Hey there, you'll likely get a much better response if you use the search function to find the entry for the game that you have a question about and then post the question in the forum for the game. Throwing it out there on the main forums (without even saying which game you're talking about) will lead to a lot of people scratching their heads in confusion

Sounds like a Diplomacy question to me. In which case, yes, the French fleet would move to the English Channel.

"Nope... back to a good year like 1626 when a good Manhattan cost a mere 24-bucks."

1) No existing train routes are affected, but new ferry routes cannot be laid across the channel.

2) The 'Take 1 Grain' action space is unavailable for this turn to due trade disruptions.

3) The Allies may not call up reserves in the next scenario.

UNless, of course, something else was trying to go to Brest.

Sorry if you find this comment a bit standoffish.

Welcome to BoardGameGeek!

We talk about tens of thousands of different games here, but assuming Diplomacy, the English fleet captures Brest, assuming no one else tries to move to Brest; and if that happens the French fleet ends up in the channel, also assuming no one else is moving into it.

The key in Diplomacy is that all moves happen at once. This is often shown on the board as moving the piece toward its objective. In the case you mention, you'd move the French fleet toward the English Channel and the English fleet toward Brest. Then you look at the board. The French fleet is trying to move into an occupied space, so you forget about that for a bit. The English fleet is moving into empty Brest: if they're the only one doing that, the move succeeds, so you move the English fleet. Now you can look to where the English fleet came from. The English channel is now empty, so the French fleet can move into it.

If a French army was also trying to move to Brest, the French army and the English fleet would "bounce" (unless one had support). They would be moved back to the center of their spaces (sometimes turned on end or over to indicate their moves are resolved). Since the English fleet is still in the channel, the French move from the Irish Sea fails (unless it is supported), and it goes back to the Irish Sea.

Yep that was 12 Power Grid maps back to back over two days. Worth doing, but possibly not in such a concentrated burst.
