Hey! I was hoping somebody who has had more experience than me could help me with two rule questions that came up yesterday. I was unable to find the answers in the rulebook or the forums.
1. If an attacker kills all units except for assist units, the attacker wins the battle. Do the defending assist units die or can they retreat? We assumed that they died.
2. If two players hit 15 conquest points in the same turn, and one has 15 and the other has 16, the one with 16 CPs wins, right? You would not use the mineral/gas tiebreaker unless the CPs themselves were tied. True?
Thanks in advance!

1. Incorrect. Assist units retreat (page 33 paragraph 1 of rulebook).
2. Correct (page 17 under NORMAL VICTORY).

I second that. You only use tie breakers if the players tie. 16CP > 15CP
As for Assist units retreating. Think of it as if they have a head start and can run away as soon as things get bad (as assist units are almost always a support unit and not front line). I know in the PC games I tend to retreat my "Assist" units as soon as I see things going poorly. They're harder to rebuild later as they almost always require energy buildup time and typically expensive. Dunno if that visualization helps you, but it made more sense out of it for me, as I always wanted to assume they are destroyed as normal.

Ah, very helpful. Thank you both for your quick reply. I appreciate your time.
For the life of me, I just couldn't find that rule about defending assist units retreating, but there it is right there in print. It makes perfect sense.
As for the normal victory, I had found the rule, but it seemed unclear to me when it said "if two players are tied with 15+ CP..." But, yeah, that makes total sense too.
Thanks again.
By the way, it was a very close game. There were three of us playing, and we were using the Brood War expansion. At the end of the 5th turn, the Zerg player had 16 CP and I (the Terrans) fought hard to get 15 CP. It looked like he was the winner, but we had to resolve our stage 3 leadership cards before checking for normal victory. Not having played the expansion before, I was pleased to pick up a card that read "To the Bitter End: each other player loses 2 CP". Good times.
