Mina Harker woke in a warm sweat in the middle of winter. It has been years so why now? A creeping feeling gnawed at her, an old familiar feeling. The feeling of the fiend in her mind. Yet he was slain years past? How has this come to be? Something is strange. She cannot recall when the fiend was last slain or who claimed to have slain it. Were they lying? Has one of the hunters turned? Is one of them willing to sacrifice the afterlife of heaven above for the life of a demon on earth? Mina Harker can come to no other conclusion but this. Which one of them is it, or is the taint within her even greater than she thought?
Welcome to Fury of Dracula PBF game #25!
If you're interested, but not yet on the waiting list, you can enter your name here. Dracula always welcomes new blood!
First of all, a special Thank You goes out to Andy 'Wood4Sheep' Clautice, who started the Fury of Dracula PBFs, and who has created the original moderator tools. A second Thank You to Klaus 'Hannibal Rex' for providing me with updated tools and maps and for this text which is basically copy and pasted from his intros.
A note on event cards, and Conditional Orders - since there's the possibility that even the first event card that is kept by a player could either be Good Luck or Devilish Power, we're going to have to wait for a response from the other side whenever an event gets played. Straightforward enough for Dracula - but waiting for all 4 hunters to respond can take a while, even at the best of times. My policy for this is the following:
Any hunter player can pass for the group.
As soon as I have two such passes, I'll continue the game. This should suffice to prevent any hasty mistakes. Don't be coy when a situation comes up where you want another hunter to play a certain event - Dracula will usually be able to discern which one you're talking about from the context anyways.
You might want to consider allowing your fellow hunters to play events (or items) from your hand by proxy. This can also help speed up the game if you don't check in very frequently. As soon as even one hunter dissents on such a decision, I'll wait for the owner of the card for the final word.
Some of my rulings, in case of ambiguities:
1) I'm going to allow Customs Search to be played on Dracula's current location, if there are no encounters there.
2) A fled New Vampire will end the hunter's turn.
3) If Dracula gets the Fangs or Escape as Bat special move, a Hide power card gets removed from the trail if the location where it was played gets replaced. All other power cards stay.
4) If Relentless Minion gets played, only the outcome of the second combat will decide what happens to the encounter chit, and the rest of the hunter's turn.
5) Hired Scouts or Telegraph Ahead won't reveal a Hide card, or the encounter on it.
6) Mina may choose to draw an item only in a small city.
I may have left out something, feel free to ask if you have a particular concern. If I notice a rules ambiguity during the game, I'll do my best to inform the players of my ruling for that situation beforehand.
We're in no rush here, so take your time to acquaint yourself, and maybe let us know about your character preferences, if any. With a few newcomers in the waiting list, I'll give everyone 48 hours to reply to my invite.
A lot of people want to play as Dracula - I have the following policy on that: Regardless of player order, the first dibs to choose Dracula will go to people who have never played him in a PBF before. After that, I'll let those people pick him who have already had 4 games as hunters since they last were Dracula. I'll randomize the selection order once we have 5 confirmations.
Dracula Preference
Contrary to previous PBFs, player selection for characters will not be entirely random. I will give first preference to Dracula to any previous player who has played as Dracula and never lost a game as Dracula. If there are multiple such players I will randomize between them. It is a King-of-the-Hill style approach that many games are played with in person, or:
To be the fiend, you have to beat the fiend.
Invites & Preferences:
Eruantalon - In dave65tdh - In pedrator - In BlackSmoke - In Raid1280 - In
Dbrundin - Out Hannibal Rex - Out cscottk - Out

Just a note that these are complete contradictions Interesting KOTH rule, although you may want to amend it to "won his last game as Dracula" so that once someone's defeated they're no longer getting automatic Dracula. As-is it's kind of a Dracula-for-life once you get to be him once.

Count me in.
Although I'm not sure I want to be Dracula as I haven't actually played him since, OMG, #8 or 8 months ago!! I think I'd have to play ftf at least once before I jump into this shark pool.
Oh, and a warm welcome to the Mod pool.

Thanks for pointing that out Caimion, the problem cutting and pasting right there. Dave - suggest you get a game in tonight as you're going in the dice generator (though obviously anyone can pass on the big D)
. The intent is as Caimion stated - once you lose as Dracula you're out of the pool.
Also, in case it isn't clear, this is the first time I have moderated, so please point out anything that seems fishy.

I'm in, and hope to play Dracula ; )

I'm pretty tied up in Galactica PBFs right now, so I have to pass.
Good Luck and have fun, though!

Currently the eligible Dracula players are Eruntalon and dave65 as they both have played Dracula and won (they are both 1 for 1). They are thus both Kings of the Hill at this juncture.

Okay. I will wait on the two original invites to respond until tomorrow morning, If I hear nothing or a declined response, both alternates are in.
In any event we have to possible Draculas.
Roll for Eruntalon 1d1000 = (166) = 166 Roll for dave65 1d1000 = (713) = 713
edit: Dave, you have first choice of Dracula. Should you pass Eruntalon will have the opportunity. Should he pass I will then randomly roll for players who have not played Dracula at all before.

"Come forth creatures of the night and those who would serve me, there is blood in foreign veins and I am thirsty." After years of regaining his health and studying those who would attempt to rid the world of him, Count Dracula emerged from his castle. Reports abound in Europe but are vague, touching lightly upon rumor and suspicion. They have been going on in frequency for long enough though that people cast glances over their shoulders when walking down dark alleys and lay their children down at night with extra worry.
Encounters have been sent. I will probably cut short the 48 hours and roll dice around 5pm EST for hunter choices.

Registration closed. Both alternates are in. From the signup sheet the only true preference expressed was by
Eruntalon for Dr. Seward, so if you are ambivalent about which hunter you play keep that in mind. Highest die roll chooses first. Feel free to discuss starting positions as well.
As always keep in mind that all information related to the game should stay on this forum in public. I highly encourage discussion and there will be no time limits on turns as long as that is happening. Flavor text in italics is always welcomed as well. And lastly, please put final orders in bold - if unsure on etiquette, former PBFs should be a good guide.
Roll for Eruntalon 1d1000 = (645) = 645 Roll for Pedrator 1d1000 = (38) = 38 Roll for BlackSmoke 1d1000 = (170) = 170 Roll for Raid1280 1d1000 = (288) = 288
First choice goes to Eruntalon, followed by Raid1280, BlackSmoke, and lastly Pedrator. Don't be coy about preferences though if you have one.

Also, if no Hunter objects, Lord Godalming will begin in Madrid.
-
-
I played Mina in the last PBF, so the Professor it is this time.
Regarding the other hunters placement, the proposals so far leaves VH or Mina to cover East Europe, which may be bad news if a minion is encountered early. The East is traditionally Lord Godalming's playground. If everyone else is cool with the hunter placement, though, then I would suggest VH covers the East and Mina the UK. Thoughts?
-
-
Goldaming should really start in EE, to take full advantage of his 2 dices against agents. Furthermore, he should start in small city, like Sofia.
I'd sugest Mina in UK and VH in Grenada, or some other small spanish city.

Mina reporting for duty!
I agree with Godalming in EE, I could cover UK, should I start in Edinburgh just to make sure? Work my way towards Southern Ports from there.
-
-
One can check UK fully in 3 moves (start)Swansea-> Liverpool-> Manchester-> London, if no Feed/DC. Additionaly - only big cities on the way. I strongly advise this, starting in Swansea ; )
