What she did is not recorded in the text, but there is a long tradition of her comforting Job in his despair. Remember, she lost everything too. I really like William Blake's take on it, as can be seen below, but look through the whole gallery for more images too. Blake clearly shows Job's wife comforting him in his distress.

OK. It isn't in the text which is why I don't recall it.

I'd say the entire art piece on the board is offensive if you ask me.

Let's start with the upper left corner and work counterclockwise to find out why:

1) We have Adam's big fat white bare ass mooning us playing "pull my finger" with some old man's torso that magically floats. If that isn't a middle finger to Queen Games customers I have no idea what is then.

2) We see a snake sniffing Adam's bare ass. This is clearly subliminal messaging to tell us to pay attention to Adam's ass again.

3) Eve is dragging Adam by the hand, in obvious embarrassment over how much emphasis is being put onto his ass by Queen Games and this very post.

4) An old man writing about sky boats. What the hell was this guy who painted this picture smoking?

5) A winged robed mutant is swooping down to kill an old dude and some kid. Not only should mutants be banned, but that damned mutant knocked the knife away that old dude was going to use to protect himself and the kid from harvey birdman.

6) Some old dude holding a tombstone over his head. This pic tells me he is strong, but what else? he is ready to go beneath his tombstone. I have no idea. It is offensive simply because it is confusing.

7) The glowing moon cow was the only survivor from the burning city? color me skeptical.

8) Some puritan lady dumping water on a greek. Not only do the timelines not add up, but I think that woman needs to learn her place and not go around dumping water on innocent greek citizens.

9) Some black haired chic praying to a fish god. Clearly, more subliminal messaging and proof that Cthulhu is real. Ia!

10) This time in the center of the picture we have... another mutant! Queen games is clearly endorsing half breeds with bestiality. But why only birds? Clearly, there is some favoritism as well as discrimination being sublimated into the minds of Queen Games consumers. Likely propaganda for fascist breeding programs.

Despicable! All of it! Not a single redeeming feature to the portrait! I say burn this filth!

Except I think it isn't a burning temple.

Looks like Elijah's challenge to Baal to me. One "alter" burning the other not.

It probably goes with the Job picture, showing a conflation of the fire and wind destruction ( http://www.esvbible.org/search/Job+1%3A16-19/)

Note that Dürer's painting is called "Job castigated by his wife" even though she is shown washing his sores. My understanding is that the text of the poem, while it merely depicts Job's wife telling him to "Curse God and die" the role of comforting is loaded in the cultural stereotypes of how a wife could come unto her husband so that she may nag him like that with Eve-like seduction. If a man returned home afflicted like Job it would be the expected role of a wife to clean him, just like a servant would. In this intimate and vulnerable moment she can gain the upper hand over Job's attention whereby she can give him stereotypically stern wifely nagging and advice. Otherwise she would not come unto him unless were she called to bring food and it would be Job's traditional and stereotypical leadership role to be the advice-giver.

Job is the oldest or one of the oldest books in the biblical canon and reveals ancient near-East poetic grappling with injustice and suffering. Scholarship generally holds that Genesis is an amalgam of oral-literary traditions that contrasts and fuses the beliefs of Eloists with the beliefs of the YHWH'ists. Job as ancient poetry informs us of the grapplings of the Eloists with God's permissive role in suffering and injustice more than it reflects the Yahwehists; the Eloists personified God with human like emotions, appearances and dialogues compared to Yahwehists that depict God more alien and sovereign. The "wrap-up" of end of the Book of Job today is newer than the earlier parts of the poem and reveal how YHWH belief came to dominate in defending the role of God in suffering and the need/desire for an intermediator and advocate for divine justice.

Today in the Hebrew and Christian canon Job forms a bookend role together with Ecclesiastes of being a "counter wisdom" poetic wisdom book - contrasting suffering and lamentations against the other wisdom books between them that are generally more affirming of God's might in victory, blessings, joy, etc.

ps, Job is one of my favorite books in the whole Bible, but I am weird like that

I agree. It is beautiful and troubling, kind of like the Coen Brothers' modern retelling of the story in their A Serious Man (2009): "If the truth is found to be lies and all the hope within you dies, then what?"

Thanks for posting this picture of the board... IMHO the artwork is mostly "cheezy".... Disappointing would probably be the best word... The bearded person, presumably God, "floating" down to touch Adam's hand is particularly funny-looking..

As for the sense of humor from Minnesota, well, it is a long winter up there. Chalk it up to "cabin fever"?

As for the earlier comment about "only in the US" or whatever that was, I would like to quote a professor and biblical expert that I remember from my grad school days...

"The Hebrews loved their bodies, and covered them. The Greeks hated their bodies (as the prison of the soul) and uncovered them."

The point? People who cover their bodies are not necessarily doing so because they find them offensive... cool

This is a topic that has been discussed with alarming regularity on this site for the last 10 years.
And it is a topic I have never seen raised on any of the many other gaming discussions fora I read.
So stereotype or not, I still only meet it in USA.

Religion and prudeness not necessarily mix together as some heavy religious country are less prude than the US about nudity.

Even if I think that religion discriminates against free thinkers, people that has different beliefs and sexual orientations, I still think that unless being an extremist, a religion could guide the person that needs it to do something better of his life.

Haha, great job

It's so ludicrous to worry about this naked picture.
And it's sad not to play this game because of it.

And this prudity can only be found in the USA or maybe in some islamic countries.

Don't you go swimming to the sea or make holiday at the beach with all the almost naked people?

The USA is the country of the extremes.
Biggest porn industry and biggest prudness.

C'mon, it just a nice innocent game.
